I recently purchased a CD8454 back in June and I am experiencing this intermittent problem. Most of the time it will play perfectly but other times it will start track#1 perfectly or play straight through for that matter through the entire CD, but if I advance to higher tracks it will either sit there with 0:00 for a few seconds and then play or will wait a while and come up with INFO3 whch means dirty CD or lens. So I bought a Philips dry laser cleaner and no difference. It will even do this with new cd's. Has anyone seen this, would a WET typeof laser lense cleaner work better. I am wondering because why would this be intermittent unless there is a problem with the deck which I am hoping not. Could a laser misalignment be intermittent? Any suggestions are appreciated

Dunno. I've seen similar problems on both a home CD player and portable player some >5 years ago. In both cases, the screw/shaft that the "greater" lens-assembly movements were done on was either gunked up with dust in the lube or loose to the point that there was some angular friction preventing it from moving smoothly. So, the small movements that occur in/on the lens-assembly allowed a few minutes of playback, but since the lens assembly was stuck in one location, the player couldn't move past the first track.
Don't know anything about recent in-car lens transports, though.

It seems to me that your system isn't old enough to be that dirty unless you live in a 3rd world nation w/dirt roads so it would seem that you need to have the laser re-aligned,
Check out this thread on the soundomain board: http://forum.sounddomain.com/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=012539
Regardless, I'd get it replaced with an AVN2454 asap.

Thanks guys,
I'll call the place that I bought it from today, I just don't want to go another 6 weeks with out sound  , Emass, I actually found that same thread on Sound Domain. I keep the car very clean, I am just in denial and hoping that it was possible haze on the lense or something that woukld appear during changes in temp or something like that.
As for the AVN2454, I don't really have the need for Nav or DVD playback in the car, however Nav could come in handy every now and then. All I care about is awesome sound :D
