I have posted a photo description of the Long Canyon Trail near Moab. This one of the area 4wd trails that is sometimes passible by 2wd cars. I made it down without problem, but might not have been able to pass through one section in the uphill direction.

Nice Pic, paulj!!
I like how you've subtly included your "E" into the scenery. By reflecting nature, it seems right at home and in it's "element". Very artistic (and I mean that in a completely platonic way!)! ;)

In some cases the inclusion of the Element is intentional, planned with forums like this in mind. In this view back up the road, the inclusion of the Element is more a matter of circumstances - a quick attempt to record a bit of difficult driving. The car was still running, just in park on a slope. I'm not even sure if I had the door open. The reflection of the rocks in the car's windows is even more fortuitous, but a nice touch.
An examination of the full size image shows some the rocks I had to negotiate, better than I hoped. The ruts must have been further up the gorge.
According to a geological guidebook:
"Just ahead, the trail enters a very narrow gorge in the drainage line. Occasional flooding also makes this stretch of the trail difficult to maintain.... This particular off-road vehicle trail was constructed during one of the past uranium booms to make a convenient connection between the river and the highlands of Island-in-the-sky...."
The vegetation on the lower side of the trail does indicate a drainage line. It would also account for the sandiness of this stretch compared to the packed dirt and rock of the rest of the road.
