I was all set to purchase an Element when I came across a thread on this board about the (load capacity) being only 675 lbs. Can this be? When I mentioned this to my local Honda dealership they initially told me that I had bad information. When I asked them to check the owner's manual, and it was confirmed, the sales people were shocked! I often go out to lunch with my co-workers and in most cases me and any combination of three co-workers is more than 675 lbs. and this is (before) lunch. Am I going to have a weigh-in every time I have passengers and or cargo? I was reviewing the load capacity of other SUVs (on Consumer Reports) and most if not all are (at least) 800 lbs. Please help! I am making too much of this or do you think it is a valid concern. Is there any way to contact Honda about this?

Excellent question....I have been wondering about it too. I had three people in my E today and the total weight was right at 675 or so. I expect to put a 4th in whenever I want to.
Hope someone who knows what this is all about can chime in.
I don't think there's much to be worried about. I doubt the car will fold in half. I would just be cognizant that handling may be affected when you go over the limit.
Let common sense rule.

My guess is the "recommendation" is just that...a recommendation. It's probably related to the high center of gravity and handling of the vehicle. Keep in mind it has a 1500 lb towing capacity so it's not as though it's overloaded. Weight in excess of 650lbs may affect the attitude of the strut suspension. I'm guessing....If you want an answer from an authority I suggest calling Honda Motor Corp in Ohio. Are there any other SUV's out there with struts?
