Hey sorry for the indiviidual post with the sticky up top
but just needed for this individual speaker

I'm thinking of doing some interiors in the Element
and i came across these from a friend
he works at a shop and said even HE can't get these speakers for this cheap

Alpine Type-X SPX-177A

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8IA9YXgVmT0/specials/

Anyone confirm they will fit? even with the 6 3/4 size?

Thanks in advance

- Mike

I'm not familiar with these, but I know the high-end Alpines have always been decent. Awesome price. Man, I don't think I'm ready to get into that but for $150 I may just have to! $150 ...

To answer your question: a decent installer could probably make it work. For some odd reason Crutchfield thinks we have 5.25" speakers in the doors; maybe that's why they say it's not a match. $150? Damn.

Two things: By now you've read that the stock speakers (at least the fronts) are shallow, and ain't no way a high-end cast-basket job like those Alpine's gonna be shallow.

I think I read that if you remove some of the water shield behind the OEM speaker you'll have the depth you need.

The other thing is, the OEMs use a 3-screw mount that is traditional for 6.5" speakers. Since the Alpines are 4-screw models none of the OEM holes will match up. Minor issue.

Possible wildcard gotcha?: If the basket on the Alpines won't allow them to seat in the OEM hole you might need to open (cut) the opening bigger.

Go for it, sez I.

6 1/2 are a tight fit (and some require substantially more cutting out of the waterproofing shroud and/or inside of the grille than others). I assume 6 3/4 would be more difficult, and, if deeper, potentially impossible w/o fashioning a new grille

i had 6.75" fostgates that would have fit if i slightly modified the spacer for my eDi6500s. You probably could make them fit if you just added a spacer, cut out the watershield, and cut out a little of the panel behind the factory grill.
