This past Saturday my wife and I went down to Cannan, West Virginia to check out accomodations for a January ski trip and while there decided to do a short hike. The road in was a bit rough but certainly doable, even without the Element.

After the hike I asked my wife where the road led if we continued onward instead of going back the way we came. She said into Blackwater Falls but the road got a bit rougher. "A bit rougher", what an understatement. For 4 miles we went along at 5 MPH down into stream gullies and up rocky inclines - not too unlike a Jeep ad. There was a fairly steep drop on the left side and the right side was all bushes.

Well, the Element made it without any problems (aside from getting very dirty) and when we came out of the last gorge we came across a group of guys with Jeeps and big 4 WD trucks looking amazed that we did this in our Element. As we were driving away one of the guys said "They did it in that"?

Love my Element!!!!

It would be nice to have this testimonial over in the 'off roading' section of the forum.

I wish I had brought the camera but I never expected to do something like this. Then again, I don't think my wife would have wanted to get out of the E to take any photos. What's amazing is how the E cleaned up after the experience. We stopped by one of those .25 car washes and hosed him off and he looked just as good as before. I thought the doors would be all scratched from the rhody bushes that kept brushing up against them.

Feel free to move the original post and all replys to the "Off Road" section. I missed that when I went to post.

You were in my turf running around the hills of WV. I have taken all the roads in and around Canaan and there are some that lead to houses that are much worse than the one you were on. When I get home I will post some pics of my latest off road tripin the hills of WV in my E.
