Ok
well i have been plotting the Navi in my element idea since BEFORE i got it :)

well anyhow i just wanna thank Empire for all the helpful answered questions

now here is my problem

Local shops want

2500! for the Kenwood P-nav7015 touchscreen and nav combo installed

when i can get it for Ebay 1600 and have my friend install for 100 with me

now would you trust ebay with such a high price difference?
they offer warranty but I'm more concerned that if there is a problem than i have to send it back....than they fix...than it comes back etc etc
which takes forever

the ebay guys all have superb feedback and millions of sales BUT
never can commment on if the item still works months later ya know?

Help me decide

alof of local shops are doing the AVIC for 1900 installed eventhough i know its a 1100 dollar cost unit

HELP ME SPEND my $$$$$

Thanks
- MIke

I've been contemplating the same thing...I'm currently looking at the Kenwood ( nearly $3K with nav and Sirius receiver  locally) and the Eclipse, although I've yet to see one in person. I'll most likely go with Ebay for a decent price and install it myself. I've been using Ebay for almost four years now and have made pricey purchases before...so I'll take my chances.

well if yoiu needed it installed let me know
my friend is putting mine in with him

also i went to a local shop today and messed with both the flip up newer kenwood and the double din
and i like the double din WAY better

more moving parts = more headaches ;)

I agree with the moving parts equalling headaches. I got a chance on Thursday to go and molest the DDX7015 in the store...its a real slick item but I wished the screen came off or hid away for security reasons.

I doubt I'm going to be putting it in anytime soon, but I wouldn't think twice about a trip to Staten Island for install help! It would be cool to get out for a day.

By the way, VERY cool avatar. Racer X?

i've had that avatar since 2000 on numerous sites and a few months ago added the flames

Have you looked at the dashtop units from the leaders in auto navigation such as the Garmin Streetpilot series or the Magellan Roadmate family?

They tend to be a lot less extortionistic on things like map update (it's a volume thing) and the map & poi data usually is licensed from the same company, Navteq.

For the money those two items go for, its worth it to drop a couple extra bucks on an AVIC N1, the Kenwood DDX7015 or the Eclipse AVN 2454 since they all play CD,MP3,DVD,have satellite radio controls and so on...although it is nice how you can take the Magellan or Garmin with you...

I agree w/the above except for Kenwood. I LOVE the usability and widespread availability of the Avic N1 but like the double din, non filp screen look of the Eclipse and the fact that it has the mp3 rip juke feature.

I think in an E with a double din opening Id do the Eclipse.

I think kenwoods interfaces and overall appearance in general are kinda clunky.

I'm really liking the Eclipse too since it has two drives so you can use the navigation and the CD player at the same time ( so I am told ).

eMass, I know how much you like PYLE equipment, and they have a double din cd/dvd player as well...It seems it is a relabeled Chinese unit by the name "CASKA", and that the Caska unit is a region free DVD player...hey, I can be cheesy plus bring my import DVD's on the road too!

Right, if you're looking for a full enterainment center, that class of products isn't for you. I thought the question was strictly about nav systems. Sorry for the distraction. If it's important enough to you to spend 3x the cost for that degree of integration, enjoy! :D

For those on a lower budget (with lower standards than yours) systems like Garmin V, Magellan Traveller Kit, and Quest have a place, too...

No distraction at all...if I were looking for navigation only, sure, those two systems you listed are real nice.

I am primarily looking for a cool double din cd/dvd/mp3 player to take up the space available in the Element's dashboard, with the navigation being a nice extra.

That is a cool avatar...so eMass, what did you find inside the Pyle systems that you didn't like so that others can avoid a costly mistake?

I might be giving a call to Eclipse this week to see if they have any dealers nearby. I've read a couple of things in car audio forums recently that due to the low voltage output (.8v) on the Eclipse, some can "hear" buttons and motor drives through the speakers in the Eclipse systems...any truth to that? or at least a reason why one would be associated with the other?

I just called Eclipse's dealer locator number and found out there is a dealer here on Long Island. If my travels during work take me through the town of Patchogue, I'll stop in and check 'em out. I'd really like to see the AVN 2454 in person before laying out my money for it over the net.

[quote:b4af5a9fea=" "]...so eMass, what did you find inside the Pyle systems that you didn't like so that others can avoid a costly mistake?[/quote:b4af5a9fea]

LEAD WEIGHTS and alot of DEAD SPACE.

A big heavy sheet metal sled full of nothing except extra weights to make it feel heavier and more substantial wrapped up by some oversized, glorified heat sinks.

These things are the the equivalent of a Kia in the auto world. Shiny on the outside, and cheap to buy but there's nothing under the hood and the general build quality sucks. Only difference is when either break (and I guarantee they both will) at least Kia gives you a warranty in order to keep your mouth shut - probably only because of all the laws and litigation in the US.

Some of the circuitry i've seen in pyle, boss and other off branded amps scare the hell out of me. Most people are very cautious about installing a poor quality electrical component in their home but treat their cars differently. I don't.

Best,
eMass
