: How to Run 4 Gauge Powerwire through the Firewall?

For the life of me, I cannot find an existing spot that I can run my powerwire though my firewall. It's fairly large so trying to run it through one of the few tiny existing holes seems next to impossible. Right now, its going up the inside of my drivers side door and under the hood - a bit more ghetto-fabulous than I would like.

Have you guys had to punch out a hole in the firewall to run your wires? If not, where the heck did you run them through?

I'm still having a lot of trouble finding a good spot to run my wires through my car too. I've had some people tell me that you can run them under the inside plastic door runner/kick panel things, but that seems impossible. There just doesnt seem to be enough room to run that thick of a wire under those. From what I can see, a 10 gauge wire would run fine under those, but mine is twice as thick as that.

Any suggestions/pictures/limericks/poetry/love letters would be much appreciated.

Well, except for the love letters.

Here's a picture of the setup I currently have. I'm actually dropping back down to a smaller sealed box so my range will be better, but you get the idea.

God this looks awful. I cant believe im posting pics of this.

There's a hole near the top of the left fender (behind the fuse box) that leads to an existing knockout in the firewall. That's what I used. It took a little "fussing" but it worked out fine.

There's a small pic on the site in my signature.

I found the hole where mose of the electrical runs through the firewall, but I simply could not get my hand up there enough to even come close to getting it in. Is the hole you are referring to by the kickplate on the drivers side, or higher up than that?

On the inside it's up and to the left, you have to pull back the padding to see it. Sheniferous posted some excellent pics a long time ago that may help.

My picture is not very good but I found a rubber plug that an 8 gauge wire could be fed through. You can see the picture here: http://members23.clubphoto.com/patrick866297/2405861/guest.phtml

I can't seem to see anyones pictures on where to route an amplifier power cable. Any other pictures or ideas would be great.

Look at pics #3 and 4 in post number 2. This will only work with auto transmission since this is where the clutch cable would run on an MT.

Driver's side fender. Pull the liner back and look up inside there. You'll see a grommet you can pop out that should let your 4 gauge run through. On the inside it's up above the hood release towards the firewall.

mines an auto and i just punched out one of the spots where the clutch pedal would go, theres two perferated circles where it would bolt up. Prolly like a 3/8 size botl hole or around about.

Ditto. This too is where I drilled out the hole for my power wire...and yes the wire will fit underneath the door guard plastics. There's a channel underneath there so the wire has a place to lie.
