: Well, if Honda is really reading this....
VIRGINIAGUY 11-25-2004, 08:37 PM Minor Things...
Coin tray... If I grab a fistful of coins from it, I can't get all of them out of the tray, very bad angle I think. One each week I am collecting coins off the floor.
Raised Center Console for storage (a Cooler?, the area is big enough) and that could serve as an arm rest for driver & passenger. Doesn't have to be permanent. A plastic one could be molded to plug into the existing cup holders. That way you could walk it out to the game with you.
Cruise control master switch. Why? And if "why not", why positioned it so low? It always surprises me to see it on. Might be a problem if an inexperience driver inadvertantly switches cruise control on since the "master" can be left on. Picky I know.
What is that bump under the dash that bangs passengers' knees. Is it there because of that large tray under the dash on the passenger's side? Why would you put a tray that you could place an object on that could fly into the passengers face on a sudden stop w/o some kind of "cargo net". You know someone going to put a full can of Bud there. Ouch!?
The gray on gray digital lettering on the radio/CD player face could be changed. Is this designed by the same crazed design engineer who pioneered black on black buttons and lettering on my VCR? Yes. I use a flash light to change settings on it.
I noticed that there is always outside airflow in the "cabin" even with the fan off? Little chilly sometimes until the heat exchanger can function.
I am not complaining mind you. Great all around car and it's cool.
BigTzElement 11-26-2004, 08:11 PM Well...I can only comment on one point.
I noticed that there is always outside airflow in the "cabin" even with the fan off? Little chilly sometimes until the heat exchanger can function.
This will only happen as long as you do not have the recirculate button on. If you push in the button and still keep the fan in the off position you will not get the draft coming in from outside.
I hope that helps.
P.S. Where is my signature?!?!? I have the sig. button on.

Yup, I'm a bit hot-natured, so I use this feature almost continously to keep a little fresh air moving into and around within the E. My wife is a bit cold-natured so it works well to keep me comfy without actually having cool air blowing on her.

deckeda 11-28-2004, 07:16 PM re: coin holder. Yes, it's too low and doesn't open wide enough. We use a small leather pouch for coins and keep that in the coin holder. With the coin holder always open (the pouch sits in there but is too big for it to close) I keep thinking I'll hit it on ingress or egress but never do.
re: center console. Yes, it's too low, and the beer --- I mean soda can --- holders are too far back. As long as your passenger doesn't want to go to the back while the E is in motion (this is a common thing for minivan owners ... ) you'll find a few bigger, taller 3rd-party consoles for the E. But in my opinion Honda just needs to put a tray there a la Odyssey/CR-V.
Since when does the CR-V benefit from a flip-down tray but the E doesn't? Makes zero sense. Have it be removable with a latch release to preserve the E's all-seats-go-flat mojo if need be.
re: Cruise & fogs switches. Yep --- any switchgear at or below knee-level is open to question.
paulj 11-28-2004, 08:12 PM How about a highly modular center console? Put a base on the floor that looks like a large LEGO block base, and sell pieces the stack, allowing you to build a console as low or as high as you want?
On my last road trip I put a small duffle in the low console space, giving me a place to put guide books, snacks and water bottles. In front on that I carried a small backpack with my camera gear. At one time I even made a platform that allowed my small dog to sit between the seats. On the other hand, I am sure there are people who want a deep console with custom spaces for 10 CDs, 3 power sockets, a recharger for their cell phone, and a warmer for their double tall vegan latte.
Is it better for the manufacturer to put in a minumum console and let the owner add on, or put in a large console, and expect the owner to strip it down (as I did with my S10 pickup)?

VIRGINIAGUY 12-01-2004, 05:09 PM Yep. I have done that. Found a little Thermos Playmate cooler that just fits there. Put a pillow on top and "peace in the front seat".. If you really want to know, I don't use my right hand armrest on trips since my front seat mate doesn't have a left one... Sounds a little strange. I know
deckeda 12-01-2004, 06:48 PM 1) If you take the milk out, isn't it now just espresso? Or does using soy allow it to be vegan? It's so much easier to keep things straight when you eat animals.
2) By not using your arm rest on trips, does this build up sympathy "points" of some sort? You might consider offering to pay like half of what the accessory center console costs to someone contemplating it --- that way you can use the arm rest on your passenger seat they'd have to remove from their driver's seat.
Then again, there's a guy here selling his '03 to get an '05 in order to have one fewer miles. Perhaps you should do the same. Think of it, you'd get that second arm rest (already installed!!), and the other goodies that come with '05s. And have fewer miles!

No kidding. On the old Civic's the tray opened "once" (like it does in the E) and then if you pulled a bit harder another "hidden" compartment was behind the standard coin holder..Does anyone remember this? And no, I dont mean pulling the tray completely out..haha.
My friend had a 95 or a 96 Civic and it had this type of coinholder...
I hate that damn thing and since I have to pay 50 cents twice each day for the toll on the way to work, I end up just keeping change in my cupholder. It sucks, but I cant get a damn thing out of the coin holder. I guess its really meant to "hold" them...

They don't have toll tags, or quick pass, or pay pass, or whatever you might call it in Atlanta? If not you need to run for an elected office with this as your platform.
We even have lanes for toll tag users here in which you don't have to slow down. Ok, you are supposed to, but I have never seen anyone do it. My friends and I are so used to this that my best friend was driving us in a rented car one day and flew through the toll tag lane out of habit. Everyone in the vehicle started screaming "What are you doing???"
They do have them, I'm just incredibley lazy. It's setup so that they send you a bill at the end of the month. But after you point it out, it sure doesnt make any sense for me not to have it...
It took me forever to get one, but once I did I wondered what took me so long. My friends used to make fun of me and I finally broke down at got the tag. Now I am one of those people who gets frustrated at those in front of me getting change and slowing me down. I say to myself in the privacy of my car "What the hell is taking so long, get a freakin' toll tag!!" It is much like the people who complain about drivers talking on a cell phone. These people obviously don't have cell phone, because almost anyone who has a cell phone has been guilty of talking on it and driving at the same time. Any of you that say otherwise are complete liars and should be identified as so. I say that because I know the wrath I am about to incur.
