I just want to say that when I went up to Kansas City for Thanksgiving, they got 8 inches of snow. My friend had to work and had a pickup truck - which got insanely stuck in his yard (his yard is a pasture). His coworker came by with his Ford 4WD monster - and got stuck pulling him out.

I got in my E and drove around in his pature with absolutely no problem at all, AWD humming along (yes, you can hear it when it works) perfectly the entire time. Eventually the 4WD Ford got them unstuck, but it was funny driving circles around them.

The guy who drives the Ford and all his coworkers made fun of my car within the first 3 minutes I pulled up to their shop.

I hope my ugly honda "box" out-performing their big strong trucks was nice and embarassing for them.

Gosh, wish I read this before I went to our company christmas party last night. Topic came up about my Element and if it had AWD. As I answered "yes", co-worker's husband, driver of F-250, commented, "well, it's HONDA AWD, so it's useless". uggghhh.....

I pretty much just chosed to ignore the comment, as everyone else at table was fascinated as I told them all about how great this car was. Guess Mr. Ford was getting desperate--everybody acted like they like this HONDA, and no one asked him about his Ford. Except when one person commented how much they hated their Ford Expedition and how many brakes they have had to replace on it. Then Mr. Ford there had no choice but to admit his Ford Explorer (wife's vehicle) ate brakes for lunch too.

Old prejudices die hard, I guess.

Was the stuck pickup a 4x4? 2wd pickups often have poor traction, especially if the rear is lightly loaded.

Still, as long as it is not dragging its undercarriage, the Element does quite well in low traction situations - ones where gentle power to all wheels is more important than brute force.
