Has anyone done a video (indash) install in an E yet. Im going to be doing mine soon, but I am afraid of doing something wrong or not knowingn some key part of the install that needs to be paid attention too, etc...

I know a few of us here have indash video units.
I didn't do the install myself for mine but from what I've heard they install as any normal single or double din unit would.
Hooking up a nav unit or an additional flip-down monitor will take a bit more effort but the headunit itself should connect as normal.

Empire, and Type X. LOL, ironicly that is the EXACT unit I was going to be getting, but I found a good deal on an eclipse flip out and 6 cd changer combo. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt going to be something weird inside like I have seen in some cars (mainly domestics, but you can never be too careful).

One last question for the moment, is the deck ISOmounted? aka, does it have a bracket holding it to the dash, or did you need to use a kit?

For mine (Kenwood DDX7015) I think the installer used the brackets from the stock unit.

For mine (Eclipse AVN 2454) The installer mounted it with the 4 oem mounting screws and the outer bezel is a double din dash kit custom trimmed for the element

if u need that trim
let me know

I'm too afraid to install an after market head unit of any kind.... I've had too many bad experiences (read: they were stolen).

I really like the HU that came with the E so I'll just stick with it.

With that said, those pictures are freaking cool!!! :twisted:

You could mount a screen on the sub cover. That's the route I went. I wanted something set lower.

Mounting on the sub cover is interesting but I think its easier to see when you mount the screen in the factory location especially with navigation. I too run the Eclipse AVN-2454 with 2 additional 7" Eclipse screens. I can't wait for then next generation Eclipse AVN units.

Plus I like not having it in my direct field of vision and it's easily removed to discourage theft. Just works better for me.

The Eclipse AVN 2454 is also a touch screen and I have no trouble touching the appropriate icons but you make a great point in regards to theft. With my E, it doesn't matter what is inside, people keep smudging their noses to the glass to figure out what my E is.
