Does Honda make a toolkit for working with their wiring harnesses? What I'm looking for is the little crimp-on connectors that fit in the connectors, as well as the tool to remove them and a crimper. I tried several parts counters, a few auto stero shops, and Snap-on. No luck.

Marky wants to hack the individual connectors.

You will need a copy of Service Bulletin 00-099 (A00-099.pdf), which covers these topics:

• How to Replace Connector Terminals
• How to Install New Terminals
• How to Install Pigtail Terminals
• Pigtail Terminal Selection Chart
• Checking for Poor Fit of Terminals

Also see the Honda Electrical Connector Catalog (P/N 13CNNA-3).

ramblerdan, you are hero! A thousand thank you's!

Is the service bulletin up for download anywhere?

All I'm looking to do now is add the Pilot wiper switch, maybe radio remote controls. You think Terminal Pin Kit A is enough? Any idea what I should pay for it?

Got prices today on these tools. OUCH!

Terminal Inspection Feeler Tool Set, T/N 07XAJ-001000A, dealer: $84.15, Majestic: $58

Terminal Pin Kit A: T/N 07JAZ-003000B, dealer $421.70, Majestic $318

Terminal Pin Update Kit, T/N 07XAZ-002000A, dealer $97.35, Majestic $67

Are they made of gold?

I may just go with the pin tools and the connectors, maybe Mac or Molex has a better deal on a crimper. Or just get pin tools and some full connectors from the junkyard.

A kit which covers (nearly) every possibility is going to be a big deal, so the prices are about right. These are full kits intended for to supply a line mechanic with pretty much everything they are going to need to replace or repair any connector without killing time at the parts counter or having a car sitting "dead" waiting for a special order for Obscure Connector XYZ.

IOW, this normally isn't D-I-Y material. Connector kits like this are "business as usual" in the automotive and electronics technician trades, and, yes, they can run into some big bucks quite quickly.

Marky, that's right. And I hear the parts also cure male impotency, but as they say, if you're still "up" 4 hours later see a doctor ASAP.

I'm also close to doing the wiper mod --- but hey, are you getting a Pilot wiper arm or an RSX wiper arm? The RSX piece is potantialy cheaper because you can get them from junkards easier. Lots of idiot kids (no offense, anyone) totalling their "race" cars, don'tcha know.

But first:
Try and contact valkokir. He was also doing this but last I talked to him, something about it didn't test out. Never heard back if he got it to work.

(valkokir, PM me or answer this thread?)

Also, he may have alternative to the pins for you since he's already done the radio control mod.

Well, our pin kit's are pretty large, they have lots of pins in them, but never seems to have the ones I need. The kit comes with a nice carrying case and everything. You could prob get the update kit and it should just have pins in it. And I don't use the tools that honda has out, I just use a pick set that most autoparts stores sell. along with tool manufacturers.

>>...are you getting a Pilot wiper arm or an RSX wiper arm?<<

I didn't know the RSX was a bolt-in, is it the same as the Pilot?

I'm heading upstate, where some of the junkyards are still the old school wander around and pick your parts type. Who knows what I'll find...

Marky,

Sorry for the delay; was away for a week. PM or e-mail me if you still need that TSB.

Don't think I need it, it's just section 204 of the Electrical manual, right?

Marky, when I did my research on this (CR-V thread over at hondasuv.com) the mod was done with an RSX wiper arm. It's my understanding that CR-Vs and Elements use the same wiper arm, so if the RSX arm works in the CR-V it should work in the E. And I don't think it matters which RSX, even the normal (non Type S) has variable intermittants, as long as it's from a 2002 or later.

This is interesting though, as I wasn't sure the Pilot would fit ... that makes sense though. As I told valkokir, I had located a few RSX arms at car-part.com for like $35-45, which is approx $30 or more cheaper than brand-new.

Oh my... I was just over on the Majastic site, and the Pilot wiper switch is listed as $23.87. Can this be right?

Holy sh!t you may be right. I know when I searched it was way higher. I took a look at the URL you linked and thought I'd spotted what was wrong: you searched for an 2003 LX and I'm not sure the Pilot LX has variable intermittant wipers. But then maybe they all do?

OK --- check this out: Here's a search at San Leandro for a 2004 EX, which surely has variable intermittant wipers. So maybe that's right after all! FYI although the piece at slhonda is $2 more I don't think they slap on the handling fee Majestic does.

Ramblerdan, do you (or anyone) have this service bulletin you can send me (orientblue3@gmail.com)? Thanks

Hey guys, I used a few of the terminals that came in the radio connector I bought from installer.com in the plug containing the wiper wires on the back of the fusebox. They dropped right into the connector. Thats about as far as I got. The wires are hanging down behing my fusebox with nothing attached. I never got a potentiometer that I felt was the right range for the wiper mod. Anyhow, the terminals were a great fit and could no doubt be used elsewhere in the car. The connector was this one
http://www.installer-data.com/item/display_item.php?it=wh40
and came with somewhere around 10 terminals with a pigtail already crimped on. Releasing them from the connector is not difficult. I've been busy but I should really try and see if those wires I have hanging there will do anything.

That link shows a pick but is goofy, here's the order page, connector is for a 98 and up Honda http://www.installer.com/wires/index.html
