I got a Sirius Sportster for Xmas. I was wondering if going thru a touchless car wash will damage the antenna as far as the soap and stuff goes.

It's magnetic, right?

Just pop it off and then put it back on when you're done.

Good Point. I'm thinking though. The satellite radio companies have obviously made them tough enough for rain, so...Probably not an issue with a touchless wash, but the places that beat the dirt off your car might rip off the antenna. A strip of tape, similar to what they put on the rear wiper when entering the car wash, would probably help. Covering the entire car in tape would probably be better.

hAHAHA. Mine Just got knocked around last night at the Car wash. It was touchless but my Antenae was knocked away from where it was placed, and the Tail was almost gone. I am going to put a piece of Packaging tape over it next time. Then take the tape off. Or I may just glue the sucker on.

I have my sat radio antenna mounted just under my stock radio antenna and have had no problems in either touchless or the brush type washes. I use them very often. During the winter I touchless wash it once a week. Perhaps my stock antenna helps protect it but so far no problems.

I've been thinking that mounting my sat radio (XM) antenna under the roof-edge plastic trim might solve the problem forever. Anyone else contemplate that? I suspect the plastic trim would only reduce the received signal very slightly.
