Hey,

If you change all the speakers in the E (while keeping the stock EXS HU) with aftermarket ones will they put a strain on the internal amps of the HU and perhaps causing premature burnout in the future?

Thx,
Phil

I was under the impression that all the speakers in the E are run off the amp that is located in the passenger side kick panel. I thought the HU sent line level signals to the amp and the amp did its thing and sent the signals to the speakers.

Does the amp only power the subwoofer or the whole system???

Hey Bigtz,

It powers only the Sub. U can tell by EMASS' diagram coming out of the head unit, the speaker leads are high level not low level, ergo there aren't any RCA's (for the front & rear speakers) going to the Sub amp.

Can someone please ans my initial question about aftermarket speakers putting a strain on the stock EXS HU?

Thx, Phil

If you install speakers with different ohm ratings then you will put more strain on it. If they are the same ohm rating the speaker only puts out the power that the head unit puts out.

Actually, the stock amp DOES power the door and dash speakers. The stock headunit has no internal amp at all.

The only way you can put strain on the stock amp would be to buy speakers with a different Ohm rating.

The stock door and dash speakers are all 4 ohm, so you have a HUGE variety of speakers to choose from. I believe Best Buy, Circuit City, Crutchfield, etc list the ohm rating of every speaker they sell on their websites, so you can get a good idea of what is available.
