Windchill

A foot of snow, high winds, glare ice, and poor visibility did the trick. My wife made a sharp turn and viola! she slid in the ditch. AWD neutalized. A farmer and his wife came by and pulled her out and she insisted he take 15 bucks minimum. He,of course, declined but she prevailed after she found out they cancelled their dinner plans. As she drove off she saw the guy headed down the road to help a youngster who really got his car buried. And wouldn't you know there were already two trucks on the scene to help out. Living in Minnesota ain't bad even with -30 windchill, little sun and darkness coming around 5 pm. But the winter solstice is past and we are on the rebound.

Was it one of those "above average" kids we keep hearing about?

I spotted four young morons who "High Centered" thier parents Expedition last night in St. Louis Park. They tried to plow through a five foot high snowbank placed there by a plow. I'm not sure how they got out but they were gone about an hour or so later.
Those youngsters were NOT above average.

have not yet gotten Element stuck, we're trying, but so far Element can do it or teh trail was clearly not worth trying while in a remote area where we could have been waiting for long cold hours or days (and have felt so foolish to imposing on low clearance suv)
we did manage to get our heavy Nissan Titan 4wd "Off Road" in deep (up to the axle) snow over iced road. was pulled out by an old Nissan Pathfinder with simple/regular 4wd hi gearing (a stock Wranger with skinny tires could not) if we had a $60 highlift jack with strong support and some tracction "pads" (or kitty litter/sand) to throw down we may have gottenout on our own. in this case a 9000# Warn Winch would not have helped, as a sizable tree was way too far away. To be fair to our pu truck, even a Wrangler might have gotten stuck. a light Warangler Rubican with both axles with locking differnential may have pulled out (easily) on its own. so might have a Dodge PowerWagon.

Well, it's not exactly an E but I did get this puppy stuck. Not in this pic. But it was in a 3 foot deep rut! FUN!

The BC 4x4ers seem to take special delight in doing nasty things to Suzukis:
