Didn't mean to rhyme there. I load a four wheel cart with my equipment pretty regularly and it's beginning to take it's toll on the tail gate. I'm thinking of having a piece of diamond plate cut to fit and screwing it in. However, I'm not a mod type guy (actually more of a rocker) and would like some heads up on what would be involved. TIA.

I am looking for tailgate protection alternatives also. That plastic diamond plate matting is available thru industrial safety outlets under matting. I am finding it a bit thick for my light purposes. I am looking for the thin dimple kind that looks like the inside of the Element. So far I have tagged it as Flexi-coin by Go corporation. I think I can order it thru Acklands-Grainger industrial supply. If can convince them I just want a small piece. Check this out. http://www.goval.com/fleximat.htm

In the mean time I am using clear plastic shelf liner with light adhesive from Rona-Revy (Home depot) on the tailgate and door sills. Cheap $5 and effective and removeable and repositional and interior color comes thru.

No I don't have plastic covers on my lampshades.

How bout' your sofas?

On a more serious note, another thing to think about is trying to find yourself some aluminum diamond plate. It's thinner, conforms to contours easier, and will never rust.

Actually, have you checked Pepboys for pickup truck liners. I see some tailgate rubber liners. You would have to cut to suit and double sided tape them down. I think they are expensive for glorified rubber carpet runners. Which is another idea.

Check this out. I think you want the 4 foot wide without yellow border.

Got tired of using clear shelf liner so I got the vinyl diamond plate. Velcro tape won't stick to the chemically resistant stuff so I will have to staple or grommet the velcro on. That way I can velcro to the tailgate. I have seen 4 foot wide rubber hallway runner that would work but it smells.

Anybody see a problem with getting the tailgate and cargo floor area sprayed with rhino liner?

But you can try a local industrial store that has safety supplies. They sell work flooring. Or get beyond Home depot and go to a large flooring supply specialist and get a free sample of industrial flooring. However industrial flooring is often heavily padded for standing and I don't want that.

Rhino lining is not reversible and my rule of thumb is its got to come off for resale purposes.
