I will be going to my Acura School the week of march 14th. I will have access to the Honda Data Base while I'm there, if there is something you want to know in the service manual, let me know.

Any chance you can get electronic copies of all of the Element TSBs? That way you can get them to TMac for him to post on the site for everyone.

Can you check if it is possible to install the CR-V heated mirrors onto the Element and what parts would be needed, don't have to get the part numbers just the part names. Don't need you going nuts here. lol Unless you want to. :)

Thanks.

Yes, I can get all the TSB's and service news.

I can also get part numbers.

I can get service info.

Wiring diagrams

Accessory install directions

I won't be able to look up if the mirrors will work on the two. But if you have the right modifier they can do anything. I might be able to look at a CRV while I'm at school to see if they have the same bolt pattern size, or about same outside surface. Why do you want these mirrors?

Yeah, heated mirrors would be a great thing to have. I didn't realize how much I'd miss them!

The TSBs are all I ask though. It would be great to have them available.

I am looking for a specific TSB for pulling or drifting. I think it is under the catagory of suspension, as this is how the summary lists it on the NHTSA. I have requested a copy through them, but don't know when I can expect it. So if I don't have it by the time you go to class, maybe you can take a look

One of the things I miss are the heated mirrors I had in my Audi. Come in very handy in the winter. I don't believe the housing can be swapped, but I wanted to know if the guts can be swapped. Are the motors similar, wiring, etc.

Thanks.

The only way I could answer the mirror question would be to disassemble one of each and compare them. The motors and everything will have different part numbers because of being different vehicles, and one heated vs non-heated. I'm sure it's a possibility. You could go to a junk yard and get some mirros and give it a try.

Hey lars161,

Yeah, I'd like to know if the 05 EXS HU will be a direct swap for an 04 EXS HU.

1. Are the plugs for 05 EXS HU the same as the 04?

2. Is the XM antenna the only other part I'll need?

3. Cost for the new HU and XM antenna.

Thx,
Phil
ps Bit off-track, is it better to connect a Line Level Converter at the Sub Output of the HU or at the Sub Output of the Amp?
I'm adding an aftermarket Amp/Sub Combo.

lars161

Well, it would be better before the amp. It is a line level audio. After the amp it is amplified and will have a higher chance of distortion.

Well, with XM, why don't you buy a mobile XM and use your auxilary port. Will prob be cheaper and then you can bring the unit into your home or work also, and only have to pay one membership.

But I don't know if I'll be able to find out if they are the same, but I prob can check to see if the plugs are the same.

Lizzurd,
Is the Element XM receiver part number the same one used in the 05 CRV? Do you know if the Canadian Y models are prewired for XM? Is the HU used in the Y different from the EX?
Thanks

From what i can see the canadian E is not prewired for xm.I dont have part numbers for us vehicles so i cant tell if the CRV uses the same receiver.

I never even knew they made heated mirrors... Is it to keep icesicles from forming on them when your driving? I live in a place where nobody has air conditioning and the heaters are rarely used so I dont know about these things.

Sure, many cars come standard equipped with them. Some models you can purchase them aftermarket a well.

The heated mirrors are used similar to a rear defroster. Heats the mirror up so it melts the snow/ice or doesn't allow it to build up when travelling during a storm.

Why don't you use A/C in California?

I have an '04 4LX, and would like to know if there are power wires running to the optional rear power jack (some say DX only, others say both have it), and if the stock CD-stereo for it has a hidden aux line I can tap into for an MP3 player. I appreciate it.

I hear a thunk noise when I turn left slowly. It is not brakes, it is not the rear. It is definitely the front end. Sounds like a bad u-joint, but more likely stuts?? I have AWD '04 EX.

^^^^^^sounds like a sway bar link maybe. I doubt there will be any TSBs for that, just need someone to look at it.

Lars161, can you see if the K2.4 is used in any other Honda vehicles, where it might be tuned differently, ie. more fuel-economy-orented. I'm trying to come up with ways to improve mpg, and am thinking of 'de-tuning' ideas.

The accord crv and E all use the 2.4 but each one has a different intake manifold with different torque peaks.

We use the ac in the E maybe 3-4 times a year and thats just because you were doing something and got really hot (now get your mind out of the gutter everyone!). The houses here do not come with AC and nobody installs them into their house either. We just dont need it. The hottest it gets here is maybe 2-3 days of low 80's and the coldest it gets is low 30's and thats at night. The average day here is 65ish deg. It doesnt snow here, we barely get rain, we all complain about the heat when its 75 for the few days a year and it never reaches over 100 deg. here.

But if you go inland 10 miles its a different story.

Pacific Grove, CA. We are right on the coast about 2 hours south of San Fransico and about 4ish hours north of LA.

Correct. The 2.4 K series motor is used also in the Civic SI, the acura RSX type-s and base, and the TSX.

How the engine sits in the Element would prob be your best for mileage as honda does look to get the best mileage possible. Swapping stuff just adds horse and loses MPG. The motor in the E is the most de-tuned k series motor.

TSB's are service bulletins Honda sends out to the dealers. They inform the dealer that there is something that can or will go wrong with the car, and tells them how to fix it.

As for the radio yes they will swap out. I'll let Outpost4 tell you about that. The front seats ripping is not normal!!

The rear wheels Grinding ?? Take that thing BACK to them and tell them to FIX IT asap !!!!!!!!!!!!! What's wrong with the Door lock ??

Yes you can swap your factory radio for the later model XM ready unit, but you'll also need the XM receiver and antenna.

The seat parts are shown in this link here. (http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/prddisplay.jsp?inputstate=5&catcgry1=Element&catcgry2=2004&catcgry3=5DR+EX+4WD&catcgry4=KA4AT&catcgry5=FRONT+SEAT+%28L.%29)

Yeah, you'd need to get a hold of the '05+ Element AM/FM/XM antenna...its all built into one clean looking unit. Although I don't see why you couldn't just get a standard magnetic XM antenna for the receiver and stick it to the roof now that I think of it. The magnetic XM antenna may save you a couple of bucks since the factory Honda AM/FM/XM antenna base is roughly $83.

The parts needed for the seat rocking should be listed on the TSB. (I don't know for certain since I haven't had the problem with mine)
