Here is a question for anyone/everyone out there.

In my old truck, I used to have a few places to store things, jumper cables, tools, etc.

In the Element, there are a few pockets to store things (they don't hold that much), and with the seat back bungees there is a bit more room, but does anyone have any ideas for how to work storage of things out of sight?

I have been able to pack a few things in the spare tire well, but not much, and I did have a tool kit that fits great under the back seat, and don't try telling me under the front passenger seat, I have the Honda CD changer there.

wow youa re a senior poster now too cool.. woo hoo!

ok lemme see there are all kinds of neat gadgets you can get out there, including some neat kinda trunk things you can get to store things in, and makes it easier to take out or pop in the vehicle when youneed it.. i will post them when i find them again.

meanwhile i did get the cargo net & organizer, which is easy collasible storage, idea for shopping bags and stuff, but i know you are looking for a more constant storage.. and i have seem some great things.. and i will hunt them down for ya!

I bought the cargo net because it is so easy and hides nicely behind the rear seats and you can pull it out easy.

I have the cargo net, and the cargo cover, that is good to start.

Sharp, the cargo storage thing is a neat idea, I may have to check that out.

I am starting to carry a storage tote in the back, it seems to work well.

SHARP,

Rainy Sunday in Orlando - perfect opportunity to check out your $12+ storage recommendation at Wal-Marts'. Had to hunt one down in the Auto section as they were boxed - not on display. Got home, assembled it and placed it in the cargo area - looks like it will accomodate up to 6 supermarket bags...great replacement for cardboard boxes we had been using to contain groceries. My wife can't wait to go shopping - Thanks for the great suggestion.

Tomorrow, it's Home Depot in search of some skid resistant rubber sheets (i.e. shelf paper ). I plan to cut/place pices to fit the dashboard storage areas...should stop keys, glasses, "stuff" from shifting during turns.

Very nice Sharp. That looks like it was meant for the Element. Is it just sitting on the floor or is it connected to the sides as well?

We are using a $12.95 backpack from Wal-Mart in a nice grey that matches the interior real well. It hangs from the retractable clip and is straped to the floor level tie-down. No banging or moving around at all and the kids can still recline the back seats.

Sharp: that does sound really neat, are they kinda flat though, so if you take out the cargo thing the velcro like things don't interfere with anything else?

I use a collapsible 10 gallon cylinder to hold my groceries/odds/ends. If I need the entire floorspace in the back, I just collapse the thing and shove it under one of the seats. Works real well. I got it at Costco for like 12 bucks along with another 33 gallon unit.

speaking of storage (we are, aren't we?), I have a question...

Where does everyone put their spare change? Is there no change holder? I even have the arm rest console, and there is no regular Honda-type change holder....

I have one of those handy pill holders I received from some drug rep and then put it in the dashboard change holder. If you just put the change in there, it'll rattle, but this solves that problem (and keeps me from having to dig around it with my big ol' fingers.)

I am trying to decide between a cargo organizer and a cargo net. For those of you who own a net, what is the capacity? How about in grocery bags?

Hmm...it's one of those small retangular things that you squeeze and it opens sort of like a mouth (kinda like an old change purse from the 50s/60s). I know I'm not being very descriptive, but it's tiny rectangle usually given out by drug reps or others who pander medical supplies.

Works very well, just tell your wife to keep her eyes open next time she's at a continuing education conference or when her drug reps visit. They usually will have something of the sort (if not, you always have a lifetime supply of pens/paper!)

Can anyone provide me with the dimensions of the Element's "Cargo Organizer"? I am installing two of the "Interior Bike Attachments" and want to determine if I will still be able to use this cargo organizer since I will no longer have a totally flat floor.

I bought the same thing. Its a bitch to put together. The smaller ends keep popping out just as your trying to stretch the front bar around. I finally ended up using super glue to keep the bars inserted into the plastic ends. Haven't yet tested it but it should work ok. You can't go wrong with $13.00.

i didnt have any problem with the poles coming out.make sure they are in there tight. i have taken it apart and put it back together with no probs. the thing with glueing it is you cant disassemble it. other then that i have already put groceries in there preparing for the 30 inches of snow we got here in staten island and it handled well. great buy for the buck.

I'll ditto CEE YA's comment....you have to use a little force to insure the poles pop-in and seat properly in the plastic side panels for them to stay put.
Very happy with the ease and function of the carrier once I had it in place.

I finally got around to measuring mine. It is 31" wide x 14" deep x 11" high.

Because it's canvas except for the separators (it's broken down into 3 compartments), it can be smushed a bit along the walls, but not too much.

It has adjustable straps with hooks that connect to the tie-downs in back, to secure it in place. So there are only two places to put it (behind the front seats or at the back of the cargo area) where it won't shift around in transit.

Hope this helps.

If it is heavy you want to tie it down in case of a roll over. If you never access it you could store it on the underisde like the spare tire on my last car.

Inside, I use camping duffles. Also, when the left rear seat is up, the caribiner is a good place to hang clothes.

For those of you with the Walmart organizer, how did you secure it to the cargo area? My husband said he put mine in, but it's not that secure. Help! :(

THANK YOU CARLA for this useful information. I will definitely get this. I purchased the Walmart Organizer but returned it a day later. Since I will almost never use the rear seats I keep them folded out of the way, and in this configuration the Walmart Orgazizer slides around too much for my liking. Also, its hard plastic end pieces would scratch the sides of my vehicle. The Walmart Organizer is a nice device for its price, but the Honda Cargo Organizer will better meet my needs. Behind the front seats might be the best location for me, but I also see a possibility of placing it lengthwise along either side and attaching it to both a rear and a front cargo hook. I particularly like the fact that it will fold up flat when not being used.

Just bought a cargo organizer through the Gall's Catalog (Law enforcement, fire, & EMS stuff) for $24. It fits either way (north- south or east-west) behind the rear seats, has foldable walls for seperating stuff, has clip and lock attachments9like on fanny packs) and a waterproof botom. Stands up by itself and can be shrunk or expanded to meet your needs. Go to Galls.com to see it. Worked great for me. I carry EMS supplies(neck collars, first aid stuff, etc.) and it keeps it all together.
And my Dash mounted Green light looks great in my new Black E!

But RayO, does it slide or move around when you're driving?

That's a biggie.

Whats up with the moderators killing sharps messages?

Thats pretty weak...

May i ask why??????

RML
03-04-2003, 01:38 PM
iBeck,

The moderators did not do anything to sharps' messages.

We were wondering why he did it himself. :? We talked about it, and have no idea. TMac was going to try to reach him.

We can take complaints when we do something wrong, but we did not touch any of his messages.

The Moderators have actually really tried to say out of deleting messages, and unless it is actually SPAM, or a direct attack against a person, or it is a duplicate post (hitting the submit button twice), we leave it be. We do not screen the posts for negative comments, but actually leave them up. This board is not owned/controlled/run by Honda or anyone associated with Honda. This board is made up of people, for the most part, who really love our Elements.

I wish I had an answer for you on what happened to sharps' posts, but I don't.

Sorry, but not something we did.

Well,
I went to vole-mart last night and I searched high and low for a collapsible trunk storage thingy without much luck.

If anyone knows where to find some kind of storage device that will fit nicely in the back and is collapsible, let us know.

Thanks all :D

Please keep the ideas coming.

I was moving a computer desk from one friend's house to another's last night. Was not able to get the desk through the back door. I removed the back seats slid the front seat forward and found that the door openings on the side where bigger. The desk fit right in. Was a bit more work (removing the seats) but better than making two trips. Hopefully this little bit of information might help someone else out there.

I tried the cargo net route and bought the overpriced Honda Cargo Organizer (discounted fortunately) and wasn't happy with either. I happened upon my solution accidentally. I had bought a bunch of those plastic file storage bins at Costco for use at home, but while I was loading up to take them home, I noticed that two fit perfectly behind the seats, side by side. I also discovered that each one would hold 3 or 4 bags of groceries. Now I keep them in there virtually all the time. One holds all the junk I want to haul around with me most of the time. The other is used for parcels that I am transporting. These neatly organize stuff I want to carry, can be immediately removed if I need to haul something large, leave room behind them for long items, and, when closed, create a shelf that I can stack other stuff on. As the photos (I hope) show, I have added a cushion, which our dog Valkyrie (named after another Honda) can sit or lie on when all the seats are full.
