Since i know majority of you guys have ran XM and sirius in the Elements

2 more questions to add on the piles....

1. how fast does activation take when you call up or sign up online?

2. Guys have have hardwired in your setups
any regrets? my kit came with the "car mounts" however i wanted something a little more "cleaner"
but I change my mind alot so should i just use the supplied stuff?

Thanks
- Mike

I think I am going with the "half-clean" look. Not going to hotwire, but will run the wries behind the panels, then pop timy holes in the dash to plug into the 12v and AUX input. See the thread below of the picture I am going to copy:

Also, what made you pick Sirrius over XM? I am just wondering because nothing about Sirrius seems to be better than XM. XM has more sports options, better equipment, and is cheaper.

Hmm interesting
what i think i am going to do is hardwire the power as someone recommended in that post and use the existing cable for AUX from my Eclipse navi HU

for the unit

Tomorrow i just need to sit inside my element for a good 20 minutes and plan it all out than it should be cake:evil:

To me there is no choice between Sirius and XM... Sirius has Howard Stern and XM doesn't...

Will be getting my Sirius Radio this summer once the new models begin to come out.

Better wait till 06 then cause Stern doesnt jump to their until then. I guess you have to be a Howard fan. Hes not worth an extra $3/month to listen too. Plus I am a big Cubs fan so being able to listen to EVERY game now is fantastic...not to mention ACC football and NASCAR...oh yea and all the music. Plus the price is cheaper.

I guess I dont undertstand the zeal of buying all the hardware and paying $12.99 a month just for Stern. Am I missing something?

Yes, you are missing something... but not something that can be explained. Either you're a fan or not. I'm not here to convince you or anyone else why I have listened to him for over 20 years.

But I don't see how I am spending an extra $3/month.

if I wanted to listen to Opie and Anthony on XM it would cost $1.99/month... not worth it at all. I listened to them for free and they are not worth it to spend the money for the equipment and the monthly fee let alone the extra $1.99/month for them.

I'm planning to hardwire everything when it comes time to install my Sirius equipment in the E ( I want the PK2000 like Type X has since that also snaps into a boom box ) . Personally, I'm going to plunk down the $500 for the lifetime membership...look at it this way; $12.99 a month is $155.88 in one year( before taxes and whatnot is added on )...in three years, you will spend close to $500, and I intend to keep it for a long time...so I'll pay a little up front and be ahead of the game in 3+ years.

Stern fan for 17+ years...its one of those things that can't be explained...you're either a fan or not.

Activation doesn't take much time at all. You call up, tell the person your name, credit card number, vin, and some other information. They will then tell you to set your radio to 184 and not touch it for about 10 minutes to make sure the signal gets there. In a few minutes you're listening to Shade 45, Faction, and whatever the hell else you want to listen to.

I merely meant that XM is 9.99 and Sirrius is 12.99. With all the advantages XM has, and the only Sirrius has is Stern...then thats an extra $3 simply for Stern. Sorry I didn't say that clearly, my bad!

Yea im in the DC area and love Elliot in the Morning...but so many people hate him. Guess it is one of those things!

By the way...SkyFi2 showed up today, but was too cold outside, so I spent most of the time listening to the boombox inside...although I did put the Belkin cupholder mount in my Envoy and setup all the wires and antenna. Pretty much all cables are hidden...too bad I dont have a 2 car garage.

Tomorrow will be using the Bracketron bracket in the E and at least just placing the wires in the E...probably wont even hide them just yet (as I am waiting on a custom cord for the AUX jack anyway). I'll be sure to take a few pics...even though it wont be fancy.

Too cold out huh? You should have seen me two weeks ago installing my overhead monitor ( I wound up borrowing a space heater from the girls in the office at work to warm up the inside of the E while I worked )

As far as the Sirius install goes, I have a JVC MP3/CD/DVD HU with changer controls and will be using the changer port as a line in for the Sirius receiver. I'll integrate everything to make the installation as invisible as possible so I don't have a mess of jacks, wires and other BS out in the open.

We had ours hardwired in and love it. We have it mounted where probably nobody else would but we put it up in the center of the dash so we can keep our eyes on the road and not down looking for a station. We like the install that we chose but some may not. There is 1 wire that is seen and thats it. We are still able to use the Aux. outlet for our MP3 player as well.

And I agree, you are either a Stern fan or not.
