: Did your E replace a Saturn?
foxtail 04-15-2003, 08:34 AM Is it my imagination, or are a lot of E owners former Saturn owners? Maybe I just notice Saturn comments more in the threads because my soon-to-be E will replace a Saturn. Mine is a '95 SL1 in light plum (a very short-lived Saturn color).
possumlady 05-02-2003, 09:08 PM Gosh I just saw this thread! Yes, I'm in Maryland and my E replaced my 1997 SL2 Saturn. I was hoping to drive my Saturn into the ground, but with only 32,800 miles and on its THIRD, yes THIRD alternator, second battery, constant problems in dashboard warning lights coming on when nothing was wrong, then in February realized it was burning oil big time, I decided that for me, it was driven into the ground. Absolutely love my E and don't feel like my car is going to konk out everytime I drive more than a few miles!
foxtail 05-02-2003, 11:10 PM Gosh, sounds like you had bad luck with your Saturn! My '95 is a super car. Still running well (though going through the oil!) with 160K+ miles. I'm sorry yours turned out to be such a problem! I feel almost guilty selling mine, because it's been such a great car. I have had almost no repairs in 9 years, and it's still getting 33-35 miles per gallon. I put in a quart of oil every tank or two.
But, now I've got my new SOP! I'm going on my first road trip tomorrow, and I'm so excited! :D
Staggie 05-06-2003, 03:07 AM My E will replace my '97 SL. The Saturn's been extremely reliable but kinda boring; I've got a month left waiting for my E before I'll sell the Saturn. They do develop a lot of squeeks and rattles.
Yep. My lease on a yellow 2001 SC2 3-door ran out this year and I moved on to the E. I seriously considered the ION Coupe but it was already backordered and had no fixed release date, so I couldn't wait around with no car until it came out. Third choice was a PT Cruiser.

mikeyj 05-12-2003, 02:01 PM Mine will be partially replacing a '94 SW2, my second Saturn. 117,000 miles on the clock. Burning about a quart every 1,000 miles, but still a good car. I'm keeping it for downtown commuting. I really like the Saturn- particularly the plastic panels, whihc led me to the E.
I looked at the VUE, but I wasn't impressed. More expensive than the Element, cargo room isn't as well laid out, and handling isn't as car-like. I'd hoped for another small Saturn wagon but the Ion wagon isn't due until the '05 model year, from what I hear, and who knows if it'll be what I want.
The Elementr reminds me a lot of my last pre-Saturn car, the 5-door Civic wagon. You never saw too many on the road, but it was a super vehicle, particularly in the 4WD/6-speed version sold in the Midwest. A friend still has his '87.
hazegry 07-14-2003, 02:46 PM nope but I do own a 2002 SL2 with mods lowered 17" wheels tinted windows cold air intake yadda yadda. I love the car though no problems whatsoever wife had one that did 300,000 with no problems. We kept the satty and added the E. She wishes we had bought a Vue but let me get my E. Mine is being built today and I should have it by the end of July
Layla_978 10-06-2003, 09:13 AM My E will replace a 98 Chev Silverado Z71. We will replace the 97 SC2 next year with an 04 Accord.
SuperJETT 10-06-2003, 10:52 PM This may not count, but I had a 91 SC, yes an SC, they only made the performance coupe the first year they came out. I bought it in April 91 just a few months after they started selling cars period. Kept it over 5 years, took it from Charleston, SC to Hawaii and back home to Kentucky where I sold it with 90K.
Never had a problem with it, excellent car. Great power, 38mpg on the highway, perfect for a young guy like I used to be....
Ended up having a S-10 pickup after it and just got rid of it for the E. POS truck.
one-eyed-jack 01-20-2004, 08:48 AM I replaced a 2001 leased saturn sl. great price, great little car and I mean little, great mpg. got 41 on a trip to phila and back. 4 cyc is underpowered 6 cyc in the big????? saturns are to expensive . looked at a 6 cyc vue but the element price was 3500 less and you get more. I took a 4 yr lease on a 2003 5dr 4wd element ex, only adding keyless entry for $ 35 more a month than the saturn. 8)
bOOmEr03 02-17-2004, 08:20 PM my SOP replaced a '93 Saturn SL-1 with over 200,000 miles on it.
joerogg 04-14-2004, 08:18 PM I too was a Saturn owner. Traded my 1993 SW2 for a new 2003 EX. The Elemnet is a much better deal than the Saturn VUE.
ande713 04-24-2004, 12:32 AM a former o wait nvm honda owner, (the element doesnt seem like a typical honda sorry)
1987 honda prelude si
E-Girl 04-26-2004, 12:16 AM Me too! My new SOP is replacing a 1999 SL2, with approx. 85,000 on it (haven't sold it yet - anyone out there want a Saturn!?) I've had nothing but great experiences with my Saturn, but we really needed a car that could haul some stuff - plants, camping gear, etc. The poster who has all the problems with their Saturn is definitely not the norm. In the years I've had mine, the largest repair I've ever had was less than $200 to replace some hoses and gaskets. I hope my experiences with the Honda are as good.
And like a couple other people mentioned, I looked at Vues too, but didn't feel that they were built nearly as well as my SL2, and definitely not as well as the Element. And I would have wanted the Vue with the Honda engine and that version doesn't come in 5-speed. So, the Element won out!

foxtail 04-26-2004, 12:48 AM Aaack!!! Another Ex-Saturn owner who chose SOP...who had no problems with their Saturn...and ruled out the Vue for similar reasons....and also named Kristi!
It's too late at night to cope with this.
Kristi
danmcg 04-26-2004, 01:22 AM I replaced my 99 SL2 (http://www.saturnperformance.com/profiles/view.asp?id=danmcg) with 95k with my Element. I needed a work-mobile and the Satty just wasn't cutting it. I actually still have it but it is getting sold... I'm gonna miss my toy! :( I used to auto-x it while I was at Virginia Tech. Here is my 2nd race (timesheet (http://www.brr-scca.org/04-22-01ax.html#dan%20mcgoldrick), scroll to the bottom. I was in the NOV class). I got 2nd! The guy that beat me had been doing Rally-x for 5 years and was in the novice class with me.

Foxtail - At least we're on opposite coasts :)
Danmcg - just curious what you are asking for the 99SL2, since it's the same year as mine and only 10,000 more miles.
danmcg 04-27-2004, 10:58 PM Selling it for 4k... Everything included. Rims, intake, underdrive pulley, $1500 stereo system, blah blah blah...
I just want to get rid of it...
