have a question for any dog owners with the Murdock cargo mats.

I've read that the Black Trax version is best for dogs, and the mats look great. I was wondering how scratch resistant the mats were. Do dog's claws make scatches and marks all over them?
I'm asking because I made the cheap DIY cargo mats with the interlocking sections from Target which worked great and actually looked pretty nice. After one car trip with my border collie though, the mats had grooves all over the place where he dug his feet in.
The mats work for sliding, but now the interior looks pretty ragged out!
One of the features that attracted me to the element was the space-age "clean" look of the interior.

So before I cough up the big money, will the Murdock mats still look nice after dog abuse?

I'm not sure what your talking about as I just got my E about a month ago. I can say that with my five dogs, getting my E was the best thing. Though, the hair just floats around where ever it wants to go.
I'm thinking of getting some carpet from Lowes. like reminence and cut it to fit the E. I'll take newspaper to get the outline.
Sorry I was of no help, but, I just felt like typ'en.

My mat is fine and my dog rides in my E all the time. I put a lot of stuff (scuba tanks, boxes, bicycles, manure; that smells, plastic crates and kids) in to my E and the Murdock Mat is great. No problems. Great mat.

Have you put any dog cushions on the mat? Do they slide around?

I've recently got the Murdock Rear Cargo Mat, have been happy with it so far. It's made of hard vinyl material, about 1/8" thick and it appears to be resistant to dents from doggie nails (75 lb aussie/lab mix). The only thing is my dog doesn't like the traxx pattern, she acts like she's walking on gravel, maybe because the pattern is so raised. But I got the mat mainly for the dirty, wet mountainbikes and camping gear, so when she wants to go for a ride, I'll lay down bedding or a rug for her.

Go to Target, and buy the $6.99 Utility rug for your dog, that way you can roll it up when not in use. And for $6.99 it does the trick. I bought three of them, one for front, middle and rear.

After reading someone's suggestion to buy those kids' puzzle mats from Sam's Club, I went out and bought myself a pack of 8 for $20. It took me 20 min of cutting to fit, and...we're ready for the dog park! The dogs tried it out today for the first time and there was no slipping and sliding at all! It's super easy to clean and can be thrown away after it gets too torn up and for another $20...brand new mats again...or just flip them over and start again with the black side! It fits snug in my Element and the mats cut easily with a utility knife. Here are some pics.
