: Stock Sub & Aftermarket Sub Sound...

Hey,

For those who've added an Aftermarket Amp/Sub Combo and are also using the Stock Sub in conjunction with it.

1. How does it sound with the two being on?

2. Does the Stock Sub get muddy at max vol while the Aftermarket doesn't?

3. If #2 happens I was thinking of adding a switch to shut off the Stock Sub then I could play the Aftermarket to its max.

4. Does the Ant Wire or Amp Remote Wire have enough current to turn-on both the stock amp and a newly added aftermarket amp? If not should I add a relay?

Any ideas, suggestions?

Thx, Phil

Well, You will prob not notice the factory sub at higher volumes very much. But when I hook mine up here soon I will have them both going so when I remove my speaker box to haul I still have a little bass.

Well, on reason I ordered the LX is because I knew that I'd be swapping out the 270Watt unit and factory CD player. To me, having a subwoofer up front is only beneficial in that it frees up your cargo area. I guess I'm finicky, but I prefer (and most experts would agree it sounds best) to have the sub in back. The further the bass tones travel before your ears, the better they will sound.

As far as having a sub up front and one in the rear also, I would have to think they would cancel each other out. But of course, you could just try disconnecting the factory sub altogether and see how it sounds.

Saying that a sub in the back and a sub in the front cancelling each other out is to say you should only have one speaker in your car because they will cancel each other out. The only way speakers cancel each other out is if they are aimed at each other directly in the same phase.

Well, with powered subs, I think this factory one does the best out of any stock system I've heard. Mostly because it's up front and you don't lose the sound of it from the back. You get the immediate fill up front from it. I don't think it will make much difference when I put my 2 12" JLs in the back.

I could be wrong on this, Lars... Everybody's ears are different, so (as the saying goes) if it ain't broke, don't fix it! :)

In the world of car audio. Up front subs are highly preferred over subs in the rear. The reason you rarely see them is becuase of the obvious spacial limitations.

I run both off and on. I will usually end up disconnecting the front sub because of the vibrations in my dash that is causes. I run a 5 volt headunit, so its pushing that stock sub in the front significantly harder than the stock headunit would. For the most part, its a very cool addition when the high-bass kicks in. You can really hear it moving and, overall, it's pretty cool to at least have the *option* to run it or not.

I got some Moster Cable (1 male to 2 female) "Y"'s and ran both sub signals from my headunit to each amp (stock for stock sub and aftermarket for my larger sub). When I want to unhook the sub, I just pull off the cover and pull out the plug on the left side. I am actually thinking of wiring in a volume knob and switch this afternoon after typing this out..haha.
