: First E- Victory!
KENGORALLY 02-28-2005, 11:52 AM HEY I THOUGHT THAT YOU GUYS MIGHT FIND THIS INTERESTING!
YOU GUYS SHOULD HAVE SEEN THEIR FACES! AND THEY THOUGHT THEIR SUBE'S WERE THE HIGH AND MIGHTY IN WORLD OF RALLY... HA!

How do the classes work? (SS = Super Stock?, what engine mods are allowed?)
KENGORALLY 02-28-2005, 12:13 PM Street Stock Is What The Ss Stands For. No Mods Allowed Other Than Air Filter, And Street Tires Only. No Rally Specific Tires Allowed In Class.
I see that a Suzuki Sidekick and a Civic beat out other subies?!?
After having owned a Sidekick I know how slow they are. Makes me think that some of the other drivers needed some more practice.
Still nice to see an E take the class, however.
gfxguy 02-28-2005, 01:41 PM Nice... an anomally maybe? The Impreza had the fastest single time, after all... it was two other bad runs that made it come in second.
I wouldn't mind seeing some pictures of an E in a rally...
KENGORALLY 02-28-2005, 02:07 PM The really funny part is that the guy that came in second place was a stunt driver out of hollywood and he could not believe that the E was beating him either! I make a habit of bringing the most unlikely vehicle and see how many people I can beat. 2 years ago I had a sposored ride through Suzuki and rallycrossed 2wd aerio sx and 4wd aerio sx and a grand vitara and took the championship in three separate classes. The sube club guys absolutely hate me for the fact that they have to go home to tell people that they got beat by the lunch box on wheels as they put it! It's sort of like the master card commercial. "to see the look on the sube owners faces after the race.... priceless!". there was a guy out there taking lots of photos so he may be posting them soon. when I find them I will link them!
daroy 02-28-2005, 02:12 PM Power to the "E"
Elemen-O-P 02-28-2005, 02:32 PM Can the interior be stripped in this class? I know nothing about rallying rules and regulations, so bare with me if this is a lame question.
tom108 02-28-2005, 02:35 PM Nice! wish we had a Vid or some Pics. ;)

KENGORALLY 02-28-2005, 02:46 PM All I did was to take all of the junk out of the car. tools and equip. pondered on taking the rear seats out, but decided to leave it in. the only thing that "modded" on my car is that it is riding on Falken STZ04 215/70/16. the rules do allow you to take the interior out, thats if you are reffering to the rear seats? otherwise everything has to be left in street trim. my car so far is bone stock other than the spare tire cover has been converted to a speaker box. It was fun!
... It was fun!
That's impressive, I bet it was fun. I liked the consistent run times and it was fun to visualize the E moving fast and well. No matter what the good qualities of the E, looking fast is not one of them. When one does move fast it looks even faster.
Nice to learn you're a ham too. You can tell your competition you were in the middle of QSO while rallying.

Kengo...you are my idol! One of my all time favorite cars is the STI, seeing this makes me proud to be an E owner! GREAT consistant times too! You have any pics or video from this or any other rallys that you've done? I'd be WAY interested in seeing pics of the E on a rally course!!!
GREAT job with this race!!!
booggerg 02-28-2005, 06:55 PM this gotta be some anomaly.. no way an E can beat the STI. the subu drivers must be some dip**** drivers.. and the E driver was just that good!
Great driving! Somehow the movie "Revenge of the Nerds" came to mind when I read this. :)
KENGORALLY 02-28-2005, 07:50 PM Here is the kicker. The race was held on Sunday. I was there to teach most of the participants on the finer side of rally driving. Saturday evening after the school was over and over a few beers my students in there sube's and other cars challenged me. I originally told them if one of them would loan me their car, I would. The next morning After getting to the race ground and thought to myself how awsome it would be if I were to beat them in the E. So I registered to run with the boys in my E. I had reservations at first being that the E was my only way home. Ridgecrest is 225 miles from my house, and also in the middle of nowhere! nonetheless As soon as the green flag dropped IT WAS ON! I can't help it. as soon as my racing helmet goes on my head, I know nothing but to drive 10/10th. the rest is pretty self explanatory so I won't go into the details of the race. LUCH BOX RULES!
booggerg 02-28-2005, 09:10 PM i'd be afraid the E tipping over around the corners..
biocube 02-28-2005, 09:17 PM i wish i had known! i was driving by there yesterday afternoon on the way home from mammoth.
great driving!
KENGORALLY 02-28-2005, 10:50 PM hey boogerg, I too were afraid of the E tipping! but after i hit the first corner and went around it like it was on rails in comparison to other suv's that I have driven, I had no more reservation after that and went after it! I was able to put the E into a 4 wheel drift at 50+mph just before the corner, and the E just took a set and never felt like it was going to flip at any given time. Even the other competitors were amazed at how flat the attitude of the E was in the corners. although, the REAL TIME 4WD system took a little to get used to in this particular application as it kept going back and forth from fwd, to 4wd. sort of unpredictable at first in the corners when you are trying to keep the rear wheels spinning in the corners. once I got the hang of it it was easy. there were a few photographers out there at the event so I'm trying to get a hold of the few and to see if I can get a hold of any at the moment. :-D
Theelements 03-01-2005, 12:31 AM awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
very cool, beating wrx's and such
QKMPULSE 03-01-2005, 12:34 AM Hey Ken,
Way to go dude! That's showing 'em what a Lunch Box can do!
Something about the E's suspension keeps her flat thru tight turns. If I took the same turn with my Cherokee I would have rolled!
Thx,
Phil
jvacierto 03-01-2005, 02:03 PM You've just lived out my wet dream! Being a big Initial D fan and having drifted my E in the snow, I wouldn't have loved anything more than to see you slide to victory. It's awesome to hear the modified CR-V suspension (stiffer springs, etc.) handled the turns without a problem and the realtime 4wd proved itself against Subu's system. 4 wheel drift into a turn . . . I'm drooling.
KENGORALLY 03-01-2005, 07:04 PM Thanks guys for your kind words! That sort of go me going to the point that I'm considering running the etire season of rallycrosses to see if I can take the California rally cross series championship again, only this time in the E! Can you imagine their faces then  !
BigTzElement 03-03-2005, 10:00 AM I am not sure about the classes. It appears that the "rally 4wd" is a higher class than the SS 4wd.
You also beat 9 out of the 16 entries in the rally 4wd class too.
Sweet...Citroen look out!!!
The E in the WRC....could it happen?!?!?
Ranger 03-08-2005, 07:32 PM That's classic.
Would have loved to see that.
Beating a WRX is good enough, but you took an STI.
That kind of negates excuses on their part.
Tortise and hare all over again.
:-D
BigTzElement 03-08-2005, 11:25 PM Beating a WRX is good enough, but you took an STI.
Read the chart again. He did not beat one STI it was two. I love it!!! my best friend drives a WRX.
I still want a STI tho. I can have both.....can't I?
BTW....congratz Kengo!!! You are my hero!
kilgoja 03-10-2005, 01:32 PM a lot of people underestimate the e...but the e is suprisingly fast and nimble...i had a toyota tacoma...88 model..top speed 100mph...the e can go 110....probably faster if it wasn't for the governor on it...i mean it's no nsx or anything but for rally it would be really good
