What are those two sort of horizontal J-shaped notches right near the top of the closed tailgate for? They're on both sides of the interior, beneath the back windows, right in front of the tailgate... they look like something is supposed to slide into them, but I don't know what that might be...

I think thats where the cargo cover goes.

If you mean the ones on the side panels there for the cargo cover, If you don't, I'm not sure

Looks like they are for tie-downs

the tailgate seat back clicks into the notches too

I think they're for a removablr cargo cover, to prevent people from seeing what's in back when the hatch is closed. 8)

I have the cargo cover and would not suggest anyone purchase it. It spends more time out of my vehicle than in. I have to remove it each time I want to transport my bike since it would be in the way.
