Any of you done any better than the li'l class I hitch the factory offers?
I'd like to mount a class III so I can put my dirt bike on a hitch-mount motorcycle carrier.
Have any of you done this?

Dude do a search on EOC, you'll find many links for Class III hitches. I have one on now.

I think the U-haul hitch is a class II. I don't think anybody makes one bigger than that, but I might not have noticed. Another thing, I think you will find most people will advise against putting a dirt bike on a hitch mount. The car is simply not made for that.
A fullsize 250cc dirtbike weighs what... 250 - 350 lbs?

The Valley/UHaul hitch has a 2" receiver. The installation instructions give a tongue weight limit of something like 350 lb. .
However, it attaches to the same points on the car as the Honda hitch. The bolts are comparable in size. One mounting point, the tow loop at the back of the spare tire pan, can also be used as floor jack lift point, so it can stand a vertical force (at least in the upward direction) of about 2000 lb.
All of this suggests to me that the Honda hitch could stand as heavy a tongue load as the Valley hitch. However that doesn't address the question of whether it is wise to hang a load of more than 150 lb back there, and still expect the Element to handle safely. Once you start pushing the load limits back there you need to consider the whole package, not just the 'class' rating of the hitch.
