: 64+ seating configurations?

Does anyone know what the 64+ seating configs are exactly? I can only think of about 12.

keymonkey

I think they calculated it this way:
2 rear seats with 4 positions multiplied by 2 front seats with 2 positions.
2^4X2^2=64
The math works out.........man my math teachers would be proud! :)

I can get at least 39...

okay, I get it. So its strictly a math statement, not a statement of usability. I can imagine there are some configurations in the 64 that just wouldn't be of any real use, like the front seats flat with the back seats removed (then again, it could still be a bed for short people :D ) Thanks Keymonkey

Honda.ca will show you all 64.

This is the basic formula from college math. The calculations are based on permutations and combinations.

There are 4 seats. Each front seat has two variations - up or reclined. Each of the back seats has 4 poccible positions - normal, reclined, folded up, or removed. So the permutations for the four seats is calculated as 4 X 4 X 2 X 2 = 64

Went and test drove an EX 4WD SOP today...been a member here for three months, dont know why it took me so long! LOVE this car, but I am short about 10K (anyone want to loan a hardworking 24 yr old some $$? :D ) I thought I had played around with it until there was nothing left to do. Can anyone tell me if you can make the rear seats face backwards? I figure since it mounts on those two rails it is possible. I want to put on my biking shoes while sitting in the back, so it would be real convenient that way.

I also heard them saying there were over 30 seating configurations...to me I can only see seats folded up, seats all down, one up one down, both taken out, all four seats laid flat into bed. Am I missing something?

Nope, but if you do the different combinations of each, it adds up.

Front seat up, passenger seat up, rear driver up, rear passenger down.
Front seat up, passenger seat up, rear driver down, rear passenger up.
Front seat up, passenger seat up, both rear seats down.
Front seat up, passenger seat down, rear driver up, rear passenger down.
Front seat up, passenger seat down, rear driver down, rear passenger up.
Front seat up, passenger seat down, both rear seats down.
Keep on going. :)

According to the owner's manual the passenger seat can be turned around to face backwards. I seem to remember that one of the pictures in the brochure shows this. It involves removing the headrest I do remember, but I've forgotten the rest. It did sound slightly complicated and as I couldn't think of a reason for me to do so, I didn't try it.

Has anyone notice when you type in the honda.com web site you can see the 2 back seats with bungee cords in them??? I thought we only get 1 in the front and one in the back?

Just click on "fun" and then click on "64 seat configuration"

Each rear seat has 4 configurations:

Upright
Flat
Suspended (what would you call it?)
Removed

Front seats have 2:

Upright
Flat

So you have 4x4x2x2 = 64 configurations, some of which are ridiculous and 32 of which preclude driving.

Is there any way to make the rear seats face eachother. I had seen that somwhere, I would love to get my seats that way? Anyone ever seen that?

We put 1 rear seat up (suspended) and the other flat like a bench seat & this works well for changing shoes, etc.

Each of the front seats has 2 configurations ( up and reclined ) for a total of 4 front configurations. Each of the rear seats has 4 configurations ( up, reclined, folded against the side and out ) for a total of 16. Total front and rear combo's ---16x4= 64. I can't imagine any one using all of these combo's in the same car, but it's possible.

I have only used 5 myself. One option that I would like to have but with the electronics would be impractical, would be being able to remove the front passanger seat.

My advice would be to go to your nearest dealer and have them open up an Element for you. Try out the seats, test folding them up and back, taking them out and putting them in again. My point is rather than look over photographs of the seating configurations, why not get in there and try it for yourself?

Photos probably aren't necessary. Each rear seat has four positions: upright, reclined, folded up against the wall, and removed from the car. With two rear seats, that's 4 x 4 possible combinations. Meanwhile, each front seat has two positions: upright and reclined. That gives us 4 x 4 x 2 x 2 = 64.

My thanks also, ramblerdan for the intuitive insight into the possible seating positions. I suppose one could also add that the reclined position could be subdivided into 'partially reclined' (lounging) and 'fully reclined' (lying down). That makes the total positions......uhhh, I'll leave that to you.

I probably only use a few of the seat positions, the majority of those involving the rear seats folded up and out of the way. I have had no real need to remove the back seats entirely and folding them up has served all my uses so far. Besides, my daughter's booster seat is locked into the back passenger side seat with the roof child hook, the two child hooks in the seat bottom as well as the seat belt with the ratcheting mechanism engaged. LOL I try to avoid removing the booster seat as much as I can because it's quite the labourious process to take it out and put it back in all the time

On October 19th I moved up to Toronto for my final 8-week term of Honda Tech school and with the seats folded up I was able to fit all my gear into the E and STILL be able to look out the back window (the gear was loaded to a level even with where the headrests woud be). If I remember to I'll take a pick when I load it back up and move home in December.

Speaking of room to move, about a month ago a lovely lady friend of mine and I attended a large skateboard mini-ramp bash a friend of mine had at his parents' farm near London. With the rear seats folded up and the fronts moved all the way forward, we had enough room in the front seats still to stow all our overnight gear. Then in the back a Coleman twin air mattress fit quite nicely along with blankets and pillows and room to stretch out (I'm 5'8 and she's 5'6)

Although truth be told, not much sleeping was to be had when we retired to the Element in the early morning hours after having some frosty beverages, skating the mini-ramp and hanging out with friends ;-)

But for the short time we did succumb to alcohol-induced slumber until the sunlight came knocking on the windows, we slept up like babies :D

When I was 17, I wanted a van. No WAY my Pops would let me get one (this was the '70's now) - he was afraid I would put a bed in the back since that was all the rage. I can pretty much guarantee that there would have been even less of a chance of getting an E if they were around. Seats that folded down into a bed? Blasphemy!

My husband and I are going to be owner's of an Element and we've been wondering if the back seats are capable of being swapped and made to sit reverse. Has anyone tried this?No they can't be reversed. The design of the seat and where it mounts to the floor and the side is left- and right-specific.
