[updated info. from earlier post on cd player vs. illumination cluster breaking]

Well I got my E back today and the dealership didn't make me pay, but said if it happens again that they wont fix it for the on a seperate occasion. They are still blaming the cd player, which I imediately following the pick up of my E, had checked out at a local car stereo shop. They said it was fine, but just rewired it for good measure. I showed the installer the skematics that the dealership gave me and he said they didn't give me all the info and that the skematics didn't help much.
The dealership recomended removing the cd player and re-installing the stock cd player or having it professionally installed. I chose the latter because I didn't want to have a 3 month old cd player siting in my room that I spent $250 on. It seems there was a short somewhere and with the portin it shorted being of the multiplex nature it just jumped from one thing to another and fried my voltage regulator/CPU (at least thats as much as I and the installer could figure). I think the multiplex is of poor design and could easily lead to problems.
Do you guys think I should re-install the stock cd player? I am afraid of this happening again, the wiring looks really clean behind the cd player though. Let me know what you think!

I'm really glad that you got your problem fixed. I sat here and studied the Honda service manual schematics and couldn't see any problem cause other than a short created by the CD installation. I wouldn't blame the Honda's mux for the original problem. The electronics in the Honda are complex and well designed. Many people have installed extra audio goodies without problems. That makes me think that the original installation had something messed up. If you trust the installer and the power fusing and ground leads are done correctly you shouldn't have any problem with the new CD.

Great job, and congratulations EXOXM! :)

I still don't understand how the CD player could short out and fry your voltage regulator or CPU; That's what fuses are for, and at the very least a loose, grounded or improperly installed wire should only blow a fuse. But as the stereo shop confirmed - it WAS installed fine (WTF??).

It all sounds like your Honda "tekkie" was giving you a full-on B.S. story; I'm glad they fixed the problem, even though they had to add the "We'll fix it this time..." to save face. Hopefully there won't be a next time!
