how do you resize attachments so you can download them to fit in your post?

I use IrfanView, a free image viewing program. Setting the max width to 500 and jpeg compression to 70% gives decent pictures under 20K (depending on details). Other picture viewing software should have a resizing option.

Wondered about that myself because resizing them before posting doesn't do anything.

Even most basic image editors allow you to resize the image but also to save it at a higher compression - you lose a touch of quality however it can make a big difference to the file size. I have just started posting pictures here and the compression settings seem to make the biggest difference.

BTW I use Nikon Editor for basic photo management / changes - it doesn't do a lot but does allow you to scale and compress images.

Good luck

I use XnView, a freeware and works great. Use the "resize" function and it will take care of your problem. Also does a bunch of other functions. See description below. Can't beat it. Here's the link to it.

Irfanview is fantastic...since I switched to Mac I haven't found a good freeware, so I use iPhoto with Photoshop Elements as my editor...

You can also use Googles free picture organizer to do that.

Picasa.

It's super easy to use (as easy as google..), so you wont need to learn anything about photo manipulation.
