Got my wheels in today. They are 17 x 07 " , 55mm offset. I was skeptical whether they would fit, but I think they will.

The front appears to have plenty of clearance:

The back appears to be close, but I don't think they will rub (being as the back doesn't move other than up/down. The picture makes it look closer than it is, it actually has about 1/2 inch clearance:

I was hoping to go with 235/55/17 but after seeing the clearance in the back, I might stick with 225/55/17.

Had I not already owned a set of 18's I would've gotten 17's, too. I think that's good size for the E. I'm curious as to the 55 offset, though. Doesn't that bring them in an awful lot? Mine are 45 offset and I'm worried they'll be tight. However, they are 18's, if that makes a difference.

BTW, what rims did you get? Let's see!

make sure the brand of tire you get does not have a wall that bows out to much. cause you dont want to wear out the inner wall of your tire on the shock tower.

That's why I'm thinking of going with the 225/55/17's... I believe with that size, and being as the wheel is 7" wide, there won't be much "bulging" of the sidewall to make it rub.

I'll post pics once I get tires...

I personally would be very hesitant to put those on. I am going to say that there is at least a 50/50 chance of rubbing on the inside. maybe not all the time but under heavy load or bad roads I can see that being somewhat of an issue. Just my $.02 and i hope i'm wrong.

I just realized that when I took those pictures I had the car jacked up with no load on the suspension.

Talk about a D'oh moment!

Back to the drawing board! I think I'm going to sell them anyways. I had a guy offer me $200 more than I paid for them. Oh well.

With a load, clearance with respect to the front strut towers won't change, but the position of the rims relative to the tops of the rear springs will change.
