hi,

I want to use a stereo line level source for my stereo. I took out the stock head unit and bought the harness that connects to the element's.

I wired the rear right, rear left, front right, and front left to 4 rca jacks. I then took 2 rca splitters that split one mono rca jack to 2 rca plugs. I then have a 1/8" stereo plug to 2 RCA plug wire that connects to the rca splitters. So if the amp is turned on, then the line level stereo signal should be sent to all four rca jacks on the wiring harness, right??

when i plug the source into the 1/8" stereo plug, I dont get any signal. I think that it might be that the amplifier is not being turned on.

What is with the amplifier turn on wire, and how do I get it to turn on without a head unit??

thanks,
john

In the Honda Element, the power antennae is the remote wire (amplifier turn-on wire) too. I guess they just deicded to combine them into one wire.

Just connect the power antennae wire in the Element to the Remote Wire on the headunit. Your amp/sub and antenna will turn on and off with your stereo.

heres what I got:

so there is not "amplifier turn on" wire in my harness. just the speaker wires plus 12v ignition, 12v switched, ground, illumination, dimmer, and a power antenna wire. None of these wires are wired to anything.

Ok, with this harness (and I'm not sure I've ever seen this one before), I would imagine you would use the solid blue, but you might run into problems with the antennae being shut off when playing cd's (or something else that wouldnt need the antennae).

If you find that your amp IS shutting off when playing cd's I would power it off the ACC (yellow) wire. This is a dirtier way to do it, but it will work.

Also - what type of headunit?

I dont have a headunit. I am installing a computer. I have a mini-itx motherboard that I plan on installing in the space where the stock headunit was. I have a touchscreen to controll things, as well I would like to put usb jacks where the aux jack is now.

So since I do not have a headunit, there are no other wires coming from the motherboard. I could possibly steal 5v or 12v from my power supply, but if I could do it another way ....

Ok, well if I was you I would run the power off the ACC (yellow), or run my own dedicated line to the battery. The only drawback you'll have is the amp will turn on whenever you set your keys in the ACC position (two 1/4 turns, right before the engine kicks over).

So, with that wireharness, you would want to run some sort of a 12v power supply to the solid blue wire.

does the amplifier turn on wire go to a relay that controls the power to the amp. Or does it power the amp?

because if it controls a relay, then I will just wire the 12v acc to the "amplifier turn on" wire

it does control a relay. And I just wired it to the ACC switched 12V wire and the amp is on whenever the car is on.
