: Sad Sirius and XM related news...
Nickel II 03-23-2005, 05:35 PM I know a lot of us in the electronics section are satellite radio junkies. Where do you guys get your satellite radio fix?
Probably one or all of the following website:
- xmradio.com
- xm411.com
- xmfan.com
- sirius.com
- siriusbackstage.com
Well here is the bummer, at least where I work. Websense (companies use it to autoblock websites from employees) just tagged all of these sites as "entertainment" sites. If your company uses websense, check to see if you can still hit them. I can't.
Edit: Actually, it seems maybe my company just upped its restrictions. I can't hit anything such as eonline.com, tvguide.com, imdb.com, etc.
Damn this sucks. Back to work!!
TaILoIN 03-24-2005, 12:42 PM google circumvention and websense.......
Blue Leader 03-24-2005, 01:04 PM heh, xmfan.com is being hijacked right now. 2:00pm, eastern.

This is the company that pays your for your WORK, right?
The company provides you a computer to do that WORK.
They expect WORK from you in return? How unfair!

bandwagon03 04-01-2005, 06:26 AM Sorry to hear that Nickel, i recognize you from XM411, mostly im "backstage"
We have Websense where i work, and thankfully they havent clamped down that hard yet, lets hope they dont get any ideas.. :)
BTW, maybe everyone doesnt understand, but when you subscribe many people stream the content from XM or Sirius.com, so it really sucks if he cant listen anymore, especially you Nickel, cause i know if your streaming, that means your paying for it..sorry man. :-o
ChumsGum 04-01-2005, 09:04 AM My work does the same thing but I simply go to yahoo.com or google.com then search for sirius.com or whatever and you should be able to link in.

SPY! I browse a bit and post a few times on sbs.com. If I have more than 10 posts I'd be shocked. What is your name over there?
Good news. The Websense block on the sites was on for about a week only then and went away. I actually listen on work on the SkyFi II and bombox, so I don't listen to XM RadioOnline at work...but that is 100% blocked I can tell you that.
The bummer part about not accessing xm411 was mainly not being able to keep up to date on stock news, but now I can again.
540,000 new subs in Q1
6000 subs per day
1440 minutes in a day
= 4.1 new subs per minute.
In a few years, people listening to FM or AM are going to be odd to everyone else listening to XM or Sirius.
bandwagon03 04-01-2005, 03:57 PM Actually, Nickel i browse XM411 quite a bit. I have no posts there or anything, but i lurk a lot. Im Bandwagon03 @ backstage as well.
Congrats on XM, thats a big quarter seeing as how its not Christmas season etc. Death to FM!

Ya, it is pretty cool carrying the same name around. There are about 5 sites I visit, and there are 1-3 cross-overs at various sites. Cracks me up.
I hate FM so much!

That site is automatically blocked by Websense. I work in the IS Dept and any site that streams audio and or video is generally blocked. It costs companies billions in lost productivity. You have no idea what streaming audio does to the network bandwidth. They have to block that stuff.
Our biggest issues with Websense is sites that are blocked that we need to actually get our jobs done! We have troubles getting to sites so we can get patches, updates, utilities, tools... just to be able to do our jobs!
