: Offroading at the vineyard?

Hi,
We're picking up our Red Element this Friday. Can't wait to take it out.
We go offroading at the vineyard on Cappy. How will the Element handle sand with tire pressure lowered down to 15psi? If it works, time to unload my suburban.

Thank you,

Hi,
Great question. We just got our E about 2 months ago and I too have been seeking info on how the E would handle Brant Point in Nantucket. I've read a few posts on driving in sand with an E. The low clearance is an issue as well as the "cage" that protects the tank (I think). The 4-wheel real time drive system will shut down if it overheats as well.

The consesus seems to be that you'd be taking your E in sand at your own risk and you have a significantly higher chance of getting stuck than if you were in say a Jeep Wangler. That said there are people who have driven sand and have been fine. The important thing seems to be;how deep, how soft? I'd love to hear from someone who knows Nantucket and has an E.

One of the moderators of this forum Sheniferous took his E in the sand.
I think it got stuck :)

*sigh*

yes i got it stuck but i attribute it to my lack of off-roading experience. in fact, i had zero experience prior to pismo.

I would suggest on-board air for after the offroading....don't want to run those tires under inflated!

Nice that some one asked the exact question I was considering. Too bad no answer yet.

Have taken my Grand Cherokee there with no problems in the past. Not planning to go in the back trails which I know get deep - Just need to make it from the Guard station to a spot a bit down the beach. Has anyone had their Ellie on Chappy?
