Hi to everyone. I just wanted to say that I live in Madison, WI and I drove my E over the Spring break to go to Milwaukee, then to Chicago to pick up my friends, then we drove together to Pittsburgh, PA (which is a wonderful city with great night clubs), next day we drove to Washington, DC and the next day we drove to Cleveland, Ohio. Then we got back to Chicago, etc. So basically it was a few thousand miles that I spent driving my E for just 4 days and it was awesome all the way - comfortable, stable on the freeway and roomy for all of us and our stuff.
I was doing about 110 mph, could go 115 sometimes. E does not go faster. I got lucky not to get a fine. But my friend insisted on driving my E back to Chicago, so cop got him at 109 MPH !!! Interstate speed limit in Indiana was 65. We got lucky - he only got a fine for 80 mph. Thank you officer :-D

1. When other drivers are traveling 65mph, and you are travelling 50mph faster than them, what happens when they change lanes into yours because they failed to see you coming? Answer..someone probably dies.

2. I'm not as ready to thank the police officer. I'd rather have him suspended without pay for dereliction of duty.

3. "1" and "2" are not even on your radar. Sad..

The initial post gave me the impression that this was a consistent method of driving on this trip, not a one-time event to test the capabilities of the vehicle.

It's funny how I've seen posts on here that are so critical of potential drunk drivers, but driving recklessly in a vehicle that is top-heavy and underbraked for this type of driving is OK to you. The Element is not designed for this type of driving, sportbikes are.

This forum is mainly about opinions, and this is mine. You don't like it, that's fine.

But if someone is stupid enough to brag about this type of behavior here, then I'm not going to feel bad about calling it the way I see it, even if you do insult my opinion.

Eh, whatever. Go as fast as you like. Nice to hear about the top speed. I've had mine up at 100 a few times and, to be honest, it handled better than a few cars I've been in. I've heard some people say the E is shaky after 80 but I havent really experienced that. maybe I've just been driving shi**y cars before I got the E.

I understand the "why drive reckless" argument, but c'mon, saying that "people will die" is a bit extreme. Yes, they sure can. And they can die from careless food handling too. People can die from all kinds of "careless" practices, but that doesn't mean that being careless will "kill people".

And for the record, I stook up for the guy who everyone bashed for "Drunk Driving" when he never said anything about drinking, and I also stood up for the guy who fell asleep at the wheel.

A car wreck that's 70 and over is a bad car wreck people, and you all go over 70. Just because the state says you can doesnt make it any less dangerous.

Anyone that drives the E over a 100 with other cars on the road is just plain stupid. Unless you are in the middle of know where with no cars around late at night, then maybe a few stints of 100+ are somewhat exceptable.

That is why I own a Porsche Carrera, 750 GSXR and a custom chopper when I feel the need for speed. Not saying it is right, but speeding at 100+ in the E is just retarded.

It would be a sad ending if someone in an E was doing 80-90-100mph and someone or something came in the way of your path.

Hey **** happens and whatever floats your boat, but the E is by far the farthest thing from a high speed sports car. IMO it will never be a sports car, no matter how hard you try. I'm sure your stock tires and brakes would do GREAT if you had to stop and the handling in the E at 100 is just AWESOME.

Okay let's move on....

You are absolutely right. Using the E as a sports car is pretty retarded. But it does have a top speed, like all cars. And testing it out when you aren't surrounded by cars isn't exactly "racing the Element". I dont think the idea is to take the E at unbelievabley high speeds for the sake of pretending its fast.

Hell, my 1997 Saturn SL1 is faster. But I've still tested out the top end of my E.

I just want to know of the people who stick up for this guy speeding:

1) who wants to go on a ride like this with him

and

2) who wants to volunteer to pull out in front of him???

sier
03-31-2005, 12:48 PM
I wouldn't want to ride with ANYONE going that fast. I don't trust anyone's driving over mine, nor would I allow somone to drive that fast with me in the car. I am a huge "whiner" when it comes to riding in my other friends cars because I constantly tell them to "slow down".

Just to clear that up.

And as far as pulling out in front of him, I dont see anywhere in his post where he mentions being around anyone at all, except for a cop. I think you are assuming that the guy is on some suburban stretch of interstate with 25-50 cars peppered on the road - and in that instance its obviously not safe to put other drivers lives at risk. While you can assume that, I wont. He said nothing about it, so if he wants to speed, more power to him.

++++ EDIT ++++

Plus, I think some of you are assuming that this speed was, at some point, a constant and I seriously doubt that. Getting a car up to 115 from 70 is nothing at all.

The reason I'm defending him is because of the assumptions and accusations of threatening people lives based on a tiny bit of information of a guy talking about going 100+ on a road trip.

Talk to your grandparents sometime about roadtrips and ask them how fast they went before most interstate speed limits were put in place.

If he wants to endanger himself,ok, but endangering others is criminal.

Upon reflection, I'm being hypocritical. I am agrandpa and in my 20s and early 30s, I exceeded 100mph a number of times . MOst of the speed limits in the 60s was 70mph. So I did the same as he and was as guilty then as he is now.

I've come to the conclusion that you can't mention much of anything on this board without someone telling you how stupid you are.

Shop at Walmart? You're stupid - they put everyone out of business!

Speed on the highway? You're stupid - You will KILL SOMEONE!!!

Getting an intake? You're Stupid - It's NOT A RACECAR!

Getting Chrome/Black/Glass wheels? You're stupid - YOU CANT TAKE THOSE CAMPING.

Getting a knock-off Ipod? You're Stupid - Ipods are the BEST!

Painting your panels? You're Stupid - That's going to chip off in a year

Jesus people, get a friggin life and lighten up. This is someone who sped on a roadtrip, had a run in with a cop, and posted it on here for a laugh. Instead of "That's not very smart", there was "You are going to kill someone" and then calling him on the "race" card when the guy never said anything at all about thinking his car was a racecar. Who cares if he sped? Was it in your state? Was it next to you? Did he cause you any harm what so ever? How about other drivers? Nope. No harm. Just a story.

Sure, he could have killed someone, but so could you reaching for your stereo knob. So lighten up.

Speaking from the Firefighter/EMT point of view. Typically it isn't the fast driver causing the problem, it's the slow drivers in the wrong lane.

Does anyone else see "hypocritical" in regards to this post?

Why are you so angry with Booggerg? He's just giving his viewpoint, just like you did. The hard part is remaining civil and respectful when you reply.

The bottom line to this whole thread is that I made an assumption when I responded on the first page. Those of you that said there is no proof that he was reckless are correct. But I ask that you go back and actually read Stanley's first post on this thread. Then convince me that he was only speeding for a short time. He traded driving duties with his friend, who did the exact same thing.

I'm still waiting for Stanley to set the record straight. I'm sure he'll have a good laugh over all the discussion he's created. In the interim, I'm happy to state that my initial post was an assumption. I have no verification that he was threatening anyone's life but his own. The bragging about it is what suckered me in.

By the way, speed is not what typically causes multiple vehicle accidents on the freeway. Relative differences in speed are the problem, and this is one of the points I was trying to make as well.

You're an idiot if you dont know who the 12 year old im referring to is. Just read the thread. I've obviously been on this forum a while and, like you said, helped quite a few people. Booger is a negative member in every single post he makes and if you dont know this, you obviously havent been here that long. I wasnt attacking you, so whats with the attack on my intelligence? Are *you* 12? Because that's certainly a teenager tactic.

Just drop the thread man. If it doesnt matter to you, its funny how *you* keep responding as well. If you cant understand what I'm saying, maybe you should invest in some kind of phonetical self-help tape, because my sentences are complete, concise, and had postiviely nothing to do with you what so ever until you butted in.

Call me a hypocrite all you want, booger is an idiot who only insults people. And I guess you are too for the lame "anger management" comment. We aren't on AOL. This isnt a chatroom. The typical "ohhhh i WON this fight!!" mentaility you seem to broadcast doesnt work on people over the age of 25, sorry.

I dont know why you two think im *upset* or *angry*. Hardly..haha. I know its an easy way to win an "internet fight" to try and make the other person feel like a loser for caring about "an internet forum", so these tactics seem rather juvenile to me. Continue though - its rather funny that you think im sitting at my computer slamming my keys down.

By the way, booger has already been kicked off the other Honda Element forum for being a jackass to other people. Just because its an "internet forum" doesnt mean you can be a complete a55hole to other people, no matter what your "opinion" is. Dont be a dick. Maybe you two can start a whole new level of ignorance on this board and ruin it like the other Honda boards.

Yeah sure,, fall back to the "I'm not going to argue with an imature kid" line.. So the kid caught you in a predicatment, when everyone was minding their own business, you had to be a smart ass and be the forum cop lecturing people on the do's and don'ts of forum etiquette. Your argument sucked, and is inherently hypocritical, it's laughable and highly annoying. The fact is, I had no problem with you, but your "my way or the highway attitude pissed me off".. If you're going to try to attack my mannerism, at least be somewhat accurate in your characterization... Have you read through all my posts? What percentage of them are negative? and what percentage of them are directed at a forum member versus the topic of discussion? Do you possess reading comprehension? Wow.... lol lol lol

I mean I'm sorry for being a "reckless" driver, but I wanted to save time and check out what an E can really do on the freeway. I WAS NOT doing 100 + all the TIME!!! No way

As far a traffic and stuff - he got a ticket at night, it was about 10 pm and freeway was almost empty - just some semi trucks here and there. I never wanted to race anyone anywhere and think that racing is dumb using Element. There are some other cars made for that.

As far as driving - I am a very careful driver and usually drive about 70 in 65 mph zone.

I do think that those grandpas driving Buicks on the freeway are way more dangerous. They drive like 40 mph, when you are doing 65-70. Plus they are so old sometimes that it is amazing how can they still drive safely? :?

So "don't be hatin' ", I originally posted this to show that I had a great trip and both of my friends enjoyed the E as much as I did, we used a laptop for Navigation and went through so many states. I just wanted to say how great the E is...

Finally, a response from the MIA Stanley!

Everybody, look carefully at Stanley's quotes. I see a contradiction here.

He states that he was speeding like this to save time.

Do you save time on a long trip by speeding just to see what the vehicle's top speed is?

No. You do it by driving consistently at higher speeds.

As far a traffic and stuff - he got a ticket at night, it was about 10 pm and freeway was almost empty - just some semi trucks here and there.
While Stanley feels this is harmless, driving on a dark freeway at 100+, while passing semi-trucks, seems dangerous to me. Call me crazy.

Anyone else can feel free to rip me a new one again. But for me, Stanley reinforced my belief that he and his friend are reckless drivers. My opinion, that's all.
