Here are some of my teammates after a stage of the Redlands Classic. The E came in handy since our team doesn't have a huge bus.

I am likely to be part of a very similar scene as I am seriously considering an E for transporting my bike(s) (and my team mates) to races in NorCal.

Maybe you can answer some very pertinent questions for me. How many road bikes can you fit inside with:

a) one seat up,
b) one seat removed,
c) 2 seats up
d) 2 seats removed?

Myself, I am 6'4" and would be putting in perhaps one of the biggest and longest road bikes you can find, 63 cm Klein with 12cm stem and 10-sp STI shifters (and I have a TT bike with aerobars). I will have to drive with the seat all the way back to make it comfortable.

My previous "go to the races" vehicle, a '94 Volvo 960 Wagon (with a lovely straight-6 motor), was written off on Sunday by a red-light runner who t-boned me. I am thinking that the E might be a practical replacement. Any comments you have are welcome.

Nice pics. I love seeing the E being used for what it's made for

Hey Sunday Afternoon. First who do you race for? Did you do Mclane Pac? I was a composite rider with Healthy Choice at Redlands but I'm th captain of the Sotheby's Team here in So Cal.
I'm 6'3" and ride a 60cm bike with a 13cm stem. I always have both seats all the way back for my legs. I also took one seat all the way out for the added space and to be able to see out of the right side window. I was amazed because I could fit my bike in WITHOUT taking off the front wheel. As far as how many bikes. Well with one seat up and the other down 1 is about it. If you have bags and extra wheels I had a bunch of room hauling my TT and road bike. If you just want to put bikes in then 4 is possible. It takes a little work but I did it without too much hassle fitting two 60cm's, a 56cm and a 52cm.
Erik Saunders just got one, eriksaunders.com. First he was looking at the XB but after he checked out mine at Redlands he made the smart choice. Lance was out at Ojai and had his Subaru but that couldn't touch the E!
Sorry to hear about your other car. That really sucks. Get the E and you'll never look back. Do you travel much for races. Sea Otter? Maybe I'll see you out there.

Hi ERacer,

Thanks for the reply.

I am the team captain of the Fremont Freewheelers team in the Bay Area. I am a cat 3 on road and track - learned how to race crits in the 4's last year and am learning all over again in the 3's. I rode the McLane Pacific RR and it was there that the thoughts about getting an E really popped into my head after seeing several (maybe including yours?), but given the fact that my Volvo was doing the job, I decided not to. Now that the Volvo is almost certainly dead, the E is a very likely option.

I did the Morgan Hill race on Sunday and it was on the way back from that that I was hit. The bike's all right, as am I.

Looks like I will be paying a visit to a dealer soon with as many bikes as I can muster to see how many we can fit into an E. Sounds like fun...

cool! tall racers everywhere.. I'm not a racer yet, but I sometimes contemplate it. Element seems to be a tall guy's favorite. I'm 6'6" and its definitely one of the reasons I plan on getting one (soon too!). My friend has an Element and I was able to put my 62cm Specialized E5 S-Works in the back, with the front wheel on, with the seat on. My saddle height is 85cm. No problem. He had one seat in, and one seat up.

I was wondering what most others use for bike transportation. I was planning on taking both back seats out since I rarely have passengers, this leaves me plenty of room. The other idea was to get a trailer hitch, and a hitch bike rack. Seems it'd be easier then getting bikes on/off the roof. Has anybody had the interior bike attachment installed? Seems expensive considering you can get one cheap and install it to a 2x4 or something.

ERacer, I was at the Redlands Classic for sat., hope you did well! gonna check out La Mirada tomorrow....

Once a rear seat is flipped up, my 58 cm road bike fits in entirely behind the driver and navigator seats with the spring loaded aerobars in the up position and the both wheels on the bike. When carrying a single bike, I find flipping up the rear driver's side seat does not create a blind spot.

The E is a great car for cyclists who want to carry thier bikes securely inside and don't want their bikes on the rear bumper or on the roof. No worries about getting a race bike stolen or damaged.

I'm using Saris Rack's 37" Traps Triple Track with Traps Fork Mounts. I can carry 3 road bikes with only the driver-side rear seat folded up. The middle fork mount sits on a section of 2X4 (longer bolts hold the fork mount to the track through holes drilled in the wood) which raises the bars well above those of the other two bikes.

You have to juggle the order you put the bikes in based on stem length. You'll also have to try which of the three tracks you want each fork mount to bolt into.

You can also attach eye-bolts to the ends of the track and attach these with cord, bungees or toe straps to the cargo pockets. This will keep everything from sliding around.

If you are each carrying spare wheels, you'll have to be creative on how you stash them. You could put an old blanket over the bikes, and stack the extra wheels on top.

I carry two bikes with me all summer long... '04 60cm Trek 5200 and my '03 Yeti Kokopelli mountain bike. I have them both inside mounted with a Delta rack inside the E.

Last year I entered my first road road, it was a Crit and had a blast. Planning on entering more races this summer/fall. Next year I will be doing Mountain Bike races as well. Planning on doing a few Team Triathlons in the fall as well.
