My original tires are done and I need to replace them soon, my question is, do I have to go with the original size 215/70/16 or can I get something close to the original size, a friend of mine recommend me something like 225/60/16.

225/60/16 is more of a common size than the originals, can somebody please tell me if installing this size is safe ?

Thanks in advance for any help !

You need to be careful to keep close to the same rolling diameter so that the speedmeter is calibrated correctly and there are no ABS issues. One or two percent difference is usually considered okay -the difference for the tire you are proposing is outside that limit and is not recommended by most tire installers.

There are lots of tire size calculators on line that you can use to compare

I replaced my tires with the Yokohama Geolander H/T-S G051 . After 15,000 i have no complaints with the Yokohamas. Looks like i should get at least 40,000 miles with them.

Do a search there is probably 275 threads talking about this same issue. IN fact there is a sticky at the top of this thread that covers LOTS and LOTS of this stuff.

I for one just did 235/70/16s.

So what brand and type did you finally settle on?

I am in the market for new tires. If you can please let me know what you think of the Tiger Paws. Ride, sound, price etc.

Thank you,

Joe Mama

The ride with the new tires is super smooth, i can't complain. They are not that noisy, anyways the Element is a noisy car by itself, but you can hardly hear the tires. I paid around $68. per tire + tax + installation.

I also did the front brakes, does the new brake pads take sometime to break in?
Everytime I brake, I can hear the brake pads going against the discs; that didn't happen with the original brakes.

not sure about the brakes, although you think it wouldn't take long to "even out" if that was the case, how do these tires compare to the originals. less noisy, more smooth, etc. ?
