Hi all,

I just got back from Japan. My friend there has a backup camera installed in her Toyota. It has radio, cd, dvd, tv and gps but what realy got me is that it measures the angle of your tires and then DRAWS where the car will end up. You just turn the wheels and it automaticaly shows where the car will go.

I've looked around state-side and all I can find are normal backup cameras, not the kind with the computer guidance. Anyone know of anything like it over here? :|

Idealy I'd like it to fill the space where the radio console is now.

Thanks in advance! :)

The system will probably not show up here in the US due to the litigation-happy culture here. I can see it now: "Um, I wanna sue because the computer told me I was safe to move and I wasn't and I hit my car on the curb and now I have emotional damage"

Same reason why the "self-parallel-park" feature on the J-Spec Prius isn't available here... and the "self-drive" feature in slow traffic on some some of the J-Spec Mitsubishi's won't make it stateside either.

Thanks for the info! :)

By the way, do you know what happens if you import a car from Japan? Do you get to keep the gear?

Thanks again!

i believe if you import there are a lot of customs things to deal with, not to mention getting it sertified for on-road use with the DMV. the electronics you might be able to keep but it will definately need to be smog certified.

Most of the equiptment would not be DOT certified either which won't make it road legal. A friend of mine has a right hand drive civic, but no one will let him register it.
