: Tires that Don't Fit

So I had this extra set of tires laying around and I decided to try them out on my Element. They looked great but didn't really fit. In fact the tires couldn't even turn because they were pressed against the front spring and strut tower. Anyways, with a bigger offset it could work because the compression of the suspension is not as large as the droop. Sigh, a bigger project then one Saturday afternoon.

Jeep rims actually look good on the E!

It is probably just as well those wheels and tires didn't fit. If you didn't upgrade your suspension you would probably be looking at replacing parts pretty soon. Given the E's origins I doubt it could cope with all that unsprung weight without modification. Would drastically affect performance as well I would imagine.

Who cares about performance when you look like a bada$$ :-o

The rims are alloy and the tires are large but actually pretty light. They weigh about 4lbs more then the stock Element wheels/tires.

The difficulty would come from the larger diameter it would have to push. Economy would go down and the top speed would be about 85mph

Sorry, left out the details. They are 32x11.50's on 15 inch Jeep Wrangler rims.

I am getting wheels this week. They are Falken 255/55/18 will there be a problem with fitment?

i just used the tire calculator http://gs.tolan-hoechst.com/tirecalc.htm

and figure that the 32/11.5/15 is the same as 290/75/15

those are some big wheels!

Depends. I tried that tire size with 18x8 +38 offset and they rubbed on the fenders. I was using Proxes S/T.

Check with Tire Rack for the measurements of the tire, my Nittos are 1.5 inches wider and .8 inches taller (diameter) than stock with my 18's and a 40 offset. I've pushed down on the rear of the car and no contact, in the front I think if I smack a bump with the wheels turned I might rub the fender. Check with others who have larger tires, you have to really look at your driving habits and the roads you travel. I'm almost all highway except for the winter when I go upstate NY. Upstate I have some dirt roads to contend with but I am keeping the stock tires/rims for the winter season. Check out the diameter and tread/tire width of the Falkens, you might be slightly larger than stock as I am. :)
