"Sport Activety Vehicle"????? SAV???

If they're going to change one of the words, shouldn't they change "sport" instead of "utility", since the E is way more utilitarian than it is sporty!

At least this guy is practicle. It didn't have any in depth information, but was a good article introducing the "more affordable" cars available out there. He failed to mention the saturn SUV line up, most of those can be had for around 18,000 also.

Yeah. "SUV" has become a pejorative, sort of like "station wagon". SUV = Hummer, Suburban, Tahoe, Expedition, Excursion... in other words, grotesque and unjustifiable consumption for consumption's sake. Or, SUV = Explorer, of rollover/tire problems fame.

The marketeers now go out of their way to spin their vehicles' descriptions to avoid the SUV or station wagon labels. My first experience with this was when the Pacifica was launched, being shown at a convention I was attending. I said in passing to a buddy something about "station wagon", and no fewer than three of the booth reps swooped in to "correct" me. It was rather remarkable.

SAV, I like it! Sav is an Australianism for sausage (from saveloy) so it is somehow appropriate for these long, unweildy devices with questionable content!

I don't appear to have permission to start new threads, but I would like to point out that the Honda Element was just profiled on the BBC's motoring show, Top Gear (an outstanding show, in that the presenters have no fear about making the nastiest and funny comments about cars they don't like -- it's not at all like the infomercial-esque car shows you get over here in North America). They did not find one bad thing to say about the Element -- apart from calling it a cross between a Range Rover and a Nike shoe, and pronouncing it as possibly "the first cool Honda ever".

Gee....here I thought SUV stood for: SilleeUghleeVeeehickull??? Not sure a Element is exactly one of those; appears to be a bit more functional on the street than most of the SUVzzz strike me as being...altho the oil companies gotta luv em!!! LOL! DFO:-D
