I'm there, and I'm in for the Puerto Nuevo lobsterfest and a beachcamp that night. There is an awesome Shabu Shabu restaurant in a Japanese or Korean strip mall off of Jeffrey Road just south where the 405 and 5 collide - this could be an excellent meeting place for Es heading south. I'll probably eat lunch there.

I'm in for the 11th, day after my anniversary, but what the heck.
I want to get a caravan shot from an overpass if possible.
Just need some SD folk to scout a spot.
Sorry no trip to Ensenada for us, Moms in Chula Vista and she'd be mad if I drove by without staying over.

Here's a re-post of my pick for the meet location. It's easy access off the I-5, and it's right next to Campland for anyone who wants to spend the night. http://www.campland.com/

All EOC members in favor, say "aye."

Hey this is a great place except you would have to have some of your locals get there real early as it fills fast on weekends.I live near there @2 miles so I could help if this place is the ..place. :-oAnd here's a thought...I don"t know about going down Mexico way...But if every one wanted to there is allways the desert may be hot though all depends but there are some neat places around ocatillo plus if you take a side run up to Lake Cuammaca that could be nice just a thought. :? :?

I think De Anza Cove would work swimmingly. I would also like to drive over the big bridge south of downtown (I'm going to - you can't stop me okay?) to that kooky penninsula. I propose to say hi at De Anza, grab whomever wishes to buy Mexican Auto Insurance, and caravan down to the border via Coronado, eat an amazing and cheap lobster dinner at Puerto Nuevo, then camp at a surfing beach to the south of there (Fonda, Mision). It would be perfect for me if we could circle up the Es on the beach and all tune our radios for a minute to The System (82). Especially if one of us had a particularly muscular stereo. Cocteles and dancing on that beach, you betcha.

If you're interested in a donkey show, go to Thailand. I've been all over Mexico 50+ times and I don't know anyone who knows anyone who sets up or has seen a donkey show; but maybe I just run with the wrong people. Perhaps you meant "rodeo"?

I drove by Mission Bay yesterday (Saturday) and traffic was all backed up to get into Ocean Beach and the south end of the bay. HOWEVER, plenty of parking spots in De Anza Cove (north bay) sat empty, even at 2:00 p.m. So I think we'll be okay for space if that's the site.

Still, the earlier the better, for sure.

we would have to leave orange county by 9 am to make sure we miss the traffic. any later than 9, we will be having the meet in the parking lot of the 5 fwy.

lets make it an 11:00 or 12:00 meet.

the cove looks a little borring to me. how about closer to the city? how about the park up on the hill in old town? there is a lot to do there too. We need to pick a place where we could have access to food. A park is cool I guess if you are going to have a picnic. Are we having a picnic?

1stpik
05-19-2005, 12:36 AM
A picnic wouldn't quite work because everyone will arrive at different times. You're correct about the benefit of access to food ..... but I have no suggestions there, other than a mall parking lot.

Tough to find a place that offers free parking, restaurants, and pleasant scenery, too. Ricky & Ronnie's has parking and a restaurant. De Anza Cove has parking and scenery. Like Meatloaf said, "Two out of three ain't bad."

If we agree on the cove, then I suggest that everyone stop at a Mc D's or Taco Bell just before you get there. Otherwise, we could send someone on a food run, OR do a group buy on pizza delivery once we're all assembled.

If we don't agree on the cove, then another location might work.

Members and moderators please advise.

Hello Elementalists:

I just had a fabulous long weekend in my HELLEMENT up near Lake Isabella where the mighty Kern River is running at an insanely high level. Water was ice-cold, but it will warm up by July for a possible E-rendezvous for anybody who wants to go tubing. It was my first time yesterday - well south of the crazy rapids where we camped above Lake Isabella. The section I floated through would normally take 70-90 minutes and my group did it in 25 minutes. It was awesome with only a couple of dramatic rapidy parts where you probably would not die. You could bring a truck tire tube to float in, but I bought a couple of new double-bladder tubes and they worked just swimmingly and it came to $26 for both (and they blew them up).

So - where shall we meet in San Diego in advance of the Puerto Nuevo lobsterfest? Frankly, I'll stop by SD and shake hands, but I wanna hit PN and the surfbeach to the south as early as is practical. I think that BRubble guy knows of a couple of excellent places to beachcamp, but we could always improvise. This vehicle is a champion at improv.

See you.

Does anyone play frisbee golf? There's a great course in Balboa Park but I think the parking may be a little tight. If you need a disc or two they sell them at the clubhouse, and the course fee might be about $5.

I don't really mind meeting at Anza Cove though.

Hey all.

Just a suggestion.

I know some have been considering the idea of meeting at Anza Cove.
I'd recommend skipping that one as an option.
I happen to know of a large company having it's annual picnic at that location from 11-3p on the 11th.
Probably not the best place to meet as I suspect it will be a madhouse.

I would suggest either Balboa Park or Old Town.
Both have restaurants and touristy views, though depending on when everyone's showing up, it may be difficult to get parking next to each other at Old Town.
Balboa park has enough parking that you should be able to park all together, albeit way out in the boonies.

Another good place is Seaport Villiage.
It's right on the harbor, has lots of shops and restaurants, it's also close to downtown and provides plenty of kodak moments.
Parking could be an issue here too, depending on when everyone is planning to arrive.
There are a couple of parking lots along the harbor and at Seaport Village as well as metered parking long the coast, but just about all parking downtown on Saturdays costs $, so bring change.

If you do decide to hit Seaport Villiage, keep your eye out for a SSM with a huge M.O.A.B. rack on it.
You can't miss it.
I'll be on a harbor cruise being sponsored by my wife's work.
Free beer!
:-D

Okie-doke, now I'm all confused. I would like to meet up with folk this Saturday in San Diego; but where? Somebody in San Diego suggest a specific spot and then somebody else in San Diego second it and let's lock it in. If there's grass at the edge of the parking lot I will set up my cabana with tent-fly and hang out for a while until those who wish to continue down to Mexico show up to say hello. Let's do this.

I just got home from seeing Kraftwerk at the Greek Theatre this evening and it was awesome in every way.

As of today I'm planning to hit the 5South bout 9:30, that should put me at DeAnza Cove North in plenty of time. Check out some E's and enjoy the cove till 1 then go have lunch with family.
If no one's there I'll head over to the swap meet at Koby's. But that Harbor cruise with free beer sounded good too.

Once you exit the 5 (toward the bay and information center) its not much more than 1/4 mile to De Anza Cove. No buildings in the way so spotting the other Elements should be pretty easy.

If anyone needs further info on the location or whats nearby you can e-mail me at jb@vegas-blvd.com. I live within 7 miles and know it well.

Rolled in at 11:05, still plenty of parking near the lifeguard stand, but several big parties going to happen. We walked around the lot and saw one Shoreline Mist Metallic not with the group. Then a Black Pearl came up with a couple that had some errands but were coming back (nice to meet you by the way). Broke out the chairs but when no other cars showed we broke camp and headed into Mission Valley to have some lunch.

I made it down to de Anza cove on Saturday, but my friend and I got there late due to a rather insane volume of traffic almost all the way down from Los Angeles. We pulled up about 12:05 where we first met John (JVegas) and then we cruised the lot until we spotted Patrick (1stPik) and hung out for a bit. Patrick has got the grooviest soft dog-carrier that hangs from his passenger side headrest which will allow his small pooch a panoramic view from his E. Sorry we missed the more punctual members - next time I'll get there early.

Sue and I rolled further south into Mexico (where I did not see one other Element the whole weekend). We stopped into a Caliente betting shop in Rosarita to lose a little money on the Belmont Stakes race, then headed down to Calafia (a cliffside Spanish mission from 1796) that of course has a kicking bar where we watched some sea lions play in the surf. From there we headed down past Puerto Nuevo (the lobster village) and on the advice from some locals we found a good camping beach chock-full of sandy dunes at Cantamar - the place is called Arenales Del Pacifico and the address is Calle Nino Artillero No. 33, Ejido Primo Tapia and it's $10 to camp overnight. You can also rent 4x4 vehicles there to play on the dunes if you like. We nearly stuck the Element in the sand, but not quite. We then headed back up to Puerto Nuevo for FANTASTIC lobster dinners before returning to Arenales to set up camp for the night. It was awesome. There was about a 1-hour wait at the border to return to the US from 1pm to 2pm which wasn't awesome, but endurable.

I'd do this again at the drop of a hat with any other interested Es.

Ric

PS: There is a commercial for Wendy's that starts airing on your tee vee set starting today that is kind of sweet in which I play Satan.

I don't live to far far land from there.
Is there another lined up soon?

What do I need to show up with?
Can I take my mommy with me?

Or you can write me a letter in the mail..37 cents still.
