Hi,

I am installing a GPS Navigation System into my "E" and I am having trouble finding some critical information. Please Correct Me if I am Wrong.

1) Found the Speed Sensor and it is a blue/white wire but I don't know if it is a sine wave or square wave.

2) I think the reverse sensor is Green/Black.

If someone could provide a complete Wiring Diagram for the Element that would be very helpful.

I may have a partial answer for you...most of the forums I have scanned for Honda performance and such state the VSS generates a square wave pattern. The VSS comes into play with not only navigation, but speedo calibration, cruise control and final gearing/top speed limit mods.

I finaly got it installed. The documentation for the Navigation system was wrong. It had 2 of the wire colors switched - the VSS and Reverse Sensor.

It works wonderfully now. Here is a Pic.

what system is that? Nice install, do you have a problem seeing it around the wheel?

Cool...I was originally going to put my TomTom GO in that location but the docking shoe made it difficult to do.

From what I can find on a quick search, that is the Horizon NavMate 2.0.

I've got a question (if it's a dumb question, i'll apologize first) , what does the speed sensor have to do with the gps. i thought some of the gps units (like the tom tom) were made to be portable between vehicles. is the speed sensor wiring common among all gps units (or does the one you are installing, have additional features that a standard gps system wouldn't).

It sure would be nice if you could do it all for us Genom :-D Thanks for the link, it looks like they have 2 versions of their GPS, one being hard wired and one portable. The hard wired having the speed sensor hookup. Don't really understand the benefit of the speed sensor input(maybe more accurate to location?) , but for me it's not a big deal because I was going to get the portable one. Probably TomTom. I was just wondering if they all needed the speed sensor input (even portable), but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Speed sensor is probably for dead reckoning, when the satellite signal is obscured by trees, buildings, etc...

The TomTom and other portable units do not need a speed sensor hookup.

That is correct. The Speed sensor and Reverse Gear Sensor is for dead reconing. This thing is very accurate once callibarated. I bought this one off of ebay brand new for 275 including shipping -- and you are right this is a NaveMate 2.0 from Horizon Navigation - www.horizonnav.com.

... Those Folks @ Tom Tom are serious about standing behind their products. My Go 700 had a DC power cord that was never quite right .It was a loose fit and would sometimes work it's way loose. I E-mailed them regarding this problem. The result? They second day shipped a new DC power cord to me along with a new AC cord and Europe/Great Britain adaptors . all @ no charge. :-)
