does anyone know of a place to get a basket with a bike rack? I just need to be able to transport 2 bikes and a few rubbermaid containers.

At the same time? Or bikes or baskets?

Note that ALL hitch mount bike racks on an Element require a strap up to the top to help support the load. The cantilevered weight may bend/break something. if you don't use a strap.

huh?

i think that you are talking about those lame 'window mount' racks, which require a strap.

there are plenty of (all?) hitch racks that do not.

as for the combo bike/cargo rack, i've never seen such a beast. though come to think of it, i suppose you could do it sequentially by adding either a basket or bike attachments to the yakima hitchfork rack.

I want to carry both at the same time. I guess I will have to make my own out of the 2 parts or just go with a roof mount bike carrier.

If you scroll down to footnotes,it tells you that you must tie the top of a hitchmount rack to the top of the E.Bikes on a hitchmount rack exceed the tongue weight capacity of the E trailer hitch.

I stand by my statement.

Anyone look at the installation instructions for this Dalan hitch?

The other hitch brands, Valley/Uhaul, Hidden, don't have such a 'top strap' recommendation. Valley does warn that extended leverage loads such as bike racks should not exceed 200 lb.

I bought the Hidden Hitch for the 03 and it had a strap warning in the instructions.I'm not sure the hitch is the limitation-I think the E's undercarriage may also be stressed out by the cantilevered load.

Loaded bike racks presesnt a surprisingly heavy load.My local bike shop guy said they see bent/damaged stuff all the time.I think it would be wise to reduce the load with a strap, since it is free and keeps it from rattling.
