Need opinion on POWER ACOUSTIK PLP-3 LICENSE PLATE BACK-UP SENSOR

So far the Power Acoustik looks very promising, anyone recommend a reputable and reasonably priced internet retailer to buy from?

This is the model I have, it matches that OEM look. The display isn't as obtrusive as other makes. Audible and visual indicators, comes with 16 feet of cord for the display unit and four sensors with great instructions. Pricing is decent but on eBay they always seem to rape you on shipping. I have most of the device in but haven't installed the sensors yet since I'm stalling about painting the rear bumper cover, sensors are black and cover is grey. I haven't figured out how to run the wires inside the E yet as well, so I'll post something after I get the time to do this. :|

Whee-doggies! That seems like a lot of $'s for what you get in the way of information about what's behind you....

For about the same money you could buy a little video camera and LCD monitor instead. Mount the camera under the middle brake light and point it downward and out the back window. Voila!

Tiny color camera, 12V, w/50-ft cable, built-in IR night vision and microphone: Sams Club -- $39.

(If this link fails, just go to "www.samsclub.com" and search for item 303809.)

You're on your own for the monitor. If you have a portable DVD player with video input jack, you're in business already.

Cool, I like the idea, all you would have to do is rig some switch to turn it on when you back up or when ever you wish to see what's behind you. Good idea, now just if we could get someone to do this !

Just an FYI... you're responding to a 1+ year old thread.

Yeah, but he's a newbie. I'll cut him some slack, as I know you will, too, Larry. It was his first post.

Welcome to the EOC, fisherman. :)

BTW, I have a back-up camera in my E that comes on when I throw it into reverse.

thanks for the welcome,
i am new here and looking to buy xwav element so i was searching for features that i should have in the vehicle.saw BAT E thread about it.
I saw the june date on the post and when i clicked the link for sam's club the product was still available for that price, so I figured it was recent, not a year ago. but now the posts are current with you all talking to me:rolleyes:
next time i'll make sure to look at the year too.
was thinking of buying that camera, seems like a good deal for the price.
but want to know from you , how did you get the reverse to activate the camera? did you have it done yourself? which camera did you get?
any info will help, going to test drive one this week. anything to look for?

thanks,

Very cool on wanting to get the XWAV! There is another member here who is in the midst of raising funds so she can purchase her own XWAV, her name is AmandaDi. She's going through some things with the State of Texas over testing/Certifications, etc. The manufacturer is trying to get things worked out so she can get hers.

I forgot to say it... welcome to the EOC. :)

Hey Fisherman, if you're in the NY tri-state area, I will do the labor install pro bono.

do you live near Larry?it says he's in Long Island too. we are in Ossining , NY just 45 minutes north of the city, so that would be great if you could do that for us.any recomendations on a GPS system, do you install those too?

If you could give me a list of requirements that would make it work easier for you, as well as a price to shoot for, I could give you some recommendations.

I'm an electronics engineer for a government organization, however, I also have my MECP advanced installer certification, from when I was the Northeastern Roadshop Display Technician with Circuit City (that was my in-between careers job).

How else to you make your people sound important, except to give them a spectacular title? I helped peddle product. Haha, it was fun, but way too much travel.

Thank you for the acknowledgement, sir, from you, it means a great deal.

I do have to admit, though, it's been some time since I've done any work for anyone but myself.

Thanks. As for my opinion meaning a great deal, I'll give you a second to retract that statement. I like power pop, which means I really like Hanson.

You want to re-think your opinion of me.

Hey Fisherman, if you're in the NY tri-state area, I will do the labor install pro bono.
well, i'm going to take you up on your offer. My son test drove the XWAV, was able to maneuver the wheelchair into it and loved it. so we ordered it and it will be delivered on july 26th(hopefully, if not delayed). we just ordered from Sam's club the Wisecom Mini Color Camera, http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=141724
so it should get here in a week. we went to circuit city to check out GPS Systems and figuredt was too expensive for the good ones and will wait till there is a good sale on them. we'll stick to plain AAA maps for now and see how it goes. they wanted $599 for the Garmin plus $69 for installation.
maybe we should be looking for a digital compass, any experience with those?
