: Bug Shield

I took a little trip this weekend and ended up with so many bugs on the windshield that I had to stop and wipe off the guts to get my visibility back. I realize a bug shield isn't going to keep all bugs off, but could someone who has one tell me if it actually helps?

there was another post on this and i forget the end result. i use Rain-X which gives the windshield a micro-coating. bugs slide right off with the wipers and fluid....

I added the Bug Shield and while it does not eliminate all the bugs, it does help a great deal. I just took a trip to Florida and I didn't have near as many bugs on the Windshield as I did from my previous trip.

Does the bug shield protect against hood chips from road debris :?: There is a lot of construction going on where I live and my last car had hundreds of little chips on the hood from debris.

It will definatly protect the front of the hood as it covers it. As for the rest of the hood, I couldn't say. I hope so!

I'm sure this is covered in another thread, but how hard is this shield to put on? I'm thinking about getting one but don't want to pay the dealer labor to put it on.

It's one of the simpler accessories to put on. There are five brackets that attach to the shield itself. Four of these screw onto the hood with grommets that you place into premade holes under the hood. The whole installation took me about 15-20 minutes.

was wondering? which is better, the cover for the hood or the bug guard, also do you have to drill holes into the hood for the bug guard?

I like the bug guard better. The hood cover seems to collect dirt underneth and will tend to scratch the surface paint. Plus when it rains, you suppose to take off the cover and let it dry before slipping it back on. The bug guard, their is no drilling involved. It only take 20 to 30 mins to install.

I've ordered one of the clear urethane film kits to apply to the fromt portion of the hood and fenders; it should provide similar protection to the hood cover while being essentially invisible. (An experienced window timeter is going to install it for me).

Does this seem like a good approach? I don't especially car for the look of the other options.

Thanks.

Staggie, is that the stuff that is supposed to protect your vehicle from small dings? My Dad was telling me about it this weekend.

i have the acrylic bug shield and i find it does assist in deflecting objects and deflecting some air flow higher ( allowing some bugs to swoosh over the vehicle ).

my other vehicle has had a bra for a couple of years now and i wouldn't recommend it. paint discoloration differences and wear from trapped dirt are a big problem. i was looking at the clear guard for the hood and heard good things about it...

J Rock:

In your sig, you described replacing your foglights with Xenon bulbs.

Are those the blue-ish lights? Do you use them some of the time, all the time? Isn't it like having a second pair of headlights on the car? Get anyone flashing their brights at you at night?

Anything you might tell me about this would be helpful!

Thanks!

I think I'm going with the bug shield, but I have one more question. Does the bug shield increase the driving noise? When we put one on my husband's truck, I remember that he really noticed the difference.

Thanks!

Just ordered mine through www.hondasuv.com and it was $115.00 + Free Shipping. They are great people over there, Bing is the best. My dealer wanted $150.00. Just alittle FYI...

Be careful when installing not to drop your screws in the engine. It happened to me and I had to take to bolts off of the bumper cover to find it. Of course Honda does not include spare screws, because on the instructions, it says to be installed by a certified Honda tech. Not by an Idiot Like Me!
