Yes and Yes it works, We need them in canada. Although I have not plugged in in years. Most newer cars and truck start okay even when it is really cold, -30 c. 36 us is pretty good, We pay 120 cdn plus install.

Hey my ex wife is from Chicago did you know her LOL

i also bought the block heater. it isn't so much in improving the start times or anything. to me i wanted to use it to 'pre-heat' the engine a bit.

i have been told that the hardest time for an engine is cold starts, when it is cold and all of the oil has drained from the metal parts. if the oil remains cold then it takes a while to become viscous ( runny ) and coat the interior engine parts.

with the block heater i am hoping that with the coolant in the block warmed for an hour that will be enough to warm the block and make the oil more runny and will help to coat the metal parts sooner.

that said however, when i first used it on a freezing rain morning for two hours it didn't seem to show any heat on the temp. gauge on the dash ?

the frost plug removed for the heater is only about the size of my fingertip from the end to the start of the nail. i was told by the honda mechanic that the heater itself is more like a 'coil spring' device but i haven't seen one yet...
