Well last weekend we headed inland to Ohio so this weekend we went the other direction and ended up at the Outer Banks. Myself, my wife and 2 year son went thru Nags Head, Cape Hatteras and hitched the ferry over to Ocracoke island.
Here's a few pics showing the beach, the lighthouse, the ferry, the UFO and the massive funnel cloud which came out of nowhere.

great pics, empire. that area looks very similar to where i live. it seems that quite a bit of the east coast looks a lot alike when you get close to the beach. wow that funnel cloud. that's amazing.

Nice shot with the Futuro House...48 were originally made in Finland and approximately 48 more built under license here and in other countries...quite a find there!

Overall the group of photos is real nice, especially that funnel cloud.

The saucer house has been on Hatteras for years. I don't know the whole history of this particular one but it's just a couple minutes from my wife's grandparents' house. At one time about 8 years ago we were there for our honeymoon and it was a neon green and on the other side of the road. It's also listed on the www.roadsideamerica.com (http://www.roadsideamerica.com/) 's website. Good tacky stuff can be found there. I actually live very close to the world's biggest Arby's which is also listed.:D
That funnel cloud started right as a storm on Saturday was brewing on Nags Head's soundside. Took only 5 minutes to appear and disappear. Everyone just stopped and pointed. Here are a few more shots.

Well...just another confirmation (this one from roadside America)

Columbia, Tennessee - Mule Capital of the World

Columbia, Tennessee is known as the Mule Capital of the World. During one weekend in Late March or Early April, thousands of mules converge on this small southern town. Thousands of rednecks also come out of the woodwork to ride their mules in the Mule Day Parade with a bottle of Sundrop and Jack Daniels in one hand and an empty bottle of Sundrop for a spit cup in the other. It is amazing the slogans that can be put on tee-shirts ("Who wants to be A Mule-ion-aire?"). Besides the Mule Day Parade, there is a Mule Day Queen, a Mule Pull, a Liar's Contest, and most recently - a collection of painted fiberglass mules (think of the Chicago Cows- a very artsy step up for this town- trust me.) Also of note are the many floats in the parade that carry signs about hell and eternal damnation. Columbia also claims Lynette Cole, 2000 Miss USA, and former Mule Day Queen. Directions: 65 South of Nashville -In Maury County (which also homes the Saturn Plant).

I think there is one of those Futuro houses here in central Ilinois--I know I've seen one around here somewhere....

I don't want to get too far off topic, but Empire might dig this. In Wildwood NJ in the early 70's, there was a Planet of the Apes attraction which featured a Futuro House...it was later changed into Star Wars themed attraction and then in its last incarnation, an Empire Strikes Back attraction. It was removed a number of years ago, but here are some photos I found.

The more I look at the silver Futuro House in Empire's pictures, the more I can imagine that it is an Airstream trailer seed pod.:)

Now that's VERY cool. I don't remember any of those 3 movies having a saucer in them but it's still very fitting.

I installed the red and amber clearance lights about one day before the trip to the Big E-vent. I wanted to cram in one last mod before the meet so I did these. I liked how Sellnacura had installed his front amber clearance lights so I thought I'd take it one step further and do the rear reds also. Here's a roof top pic of the lights.

Ha! just looking through this post and saw the similarities to a local Tampa landmark. Its 2001 Nude Odyssey! (Not to be confused with 2001 Honda Odyssey. ) Its been there as long as I can remember. Yeah, thats purple neon running around the windows.

There were always rumors about what goes on up in the ship.

Also, I found some wheels that look a bit like Emperial insignias. Too bad that they only come in RWD offsets :-(

Believe me, I've drooled over those wheels more times than you can imagine. There are a few 6 spoke wheels out there that come somewhat close to the design.

So Empire, where did you stay at when you were at the outer banks. I'm making vacation plans for next month, and remember reading you went there.

If my plans hold up we may be heading back toward the end of August. We have a family beach house on the canal side of Cape Hatteras that we stay at.

There's a mint condition UFO house on display at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn. Very cool interior. Not sure why they never caught on.
