Ben oui!

I've got a 2004 SOP automatic AWD. I bought it the last day of March 2005 and I already have over 16,000km on it. Dorve it down to Virginia with my camping gear and our 2 road bikes. These days, I carry: or our mountain bikes to local trails, or pull my trailer with 2 dirt bikes. I've been putting a lot of mileage on it and I enjoy every minute of it too.

A funny thing happened a few weeks ago, less than 1km from my house, I was waiting at the light, and I realized there were 3 SOP Elements waiting at different corners of the same light! I don't think this can happen very often!

Bonjour aux autres Québécois!

Are there more Element owners in Quebec. My new boyfriend who is French Canadien, says that French Canadiens know how to have fun! This is my second Canadien boyfriend, the other was from Toronto and he was not much fun and not as friendly. Since, the winters are long and cold, how are you all doing up there. What kind of winter events are you planning? I am orginally from the suburbs of Chicago, and I know about those mean winters.

There is Quebec CRV forum that touches on the other Honda SUVs (not very active though).

http://www.quebeccrv.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

They are the source of the best description of the AWD unit on the CRV and Element:

Don't think he meant in their E's. There arn't that many E's around here, well I havn't seen too many. But most people here like recreational vehicles (ski doo's, sea doo's, ATV's, boats, etc.). And there are some people who get big lifts on their pickup trucks and drive through the few trails that they have made from going there so often.

Hello All! New member here and first post. I'm very excited, I've been reading the site non stop and very thankful to have found it.

From Montreal, born and bred.

My present vehicle is an Explorer Sport which, in general, has been very good to me. However, had to do some repairs lately and know that it's only going to get worse as time goes by.

The increasing dependence on me (no complaints with that), my mom's cancer, damn work stress, all the loose ends, failing vehicle etc... I'm looking for some stability, something dependable, and the comfort of mind that comes with it.

Well, this time around with respect to my ride, I really just want to go very simple, very spartan. No bells, no whistles, no hassles, just pure good conceptual design. Smack meet Element. Element meet Smack. In my heart, I truly believe its meant for me!

So, as of the present moment, I'm seriously considering a spartan plain jane E, base model w/ AT (hey, gotta let pops drive it too), and I'm even considering a 3 year lease (see below) as I'm confident that within that time period all my hard work will come to fruition.

With all this banter, I was hoping for, and would really appreciate, any opinions on the following things:

1. For those with FWD, how's it winter handling, do you regret not taking the 4WD? I've always driven a 4WD vehicle but with FWD and a very good set of snow tires (plus driving responsibly) I'm under the impression it will handle reasonable well.

2. Trim Lines. I was disappointed the Y Package comes only with body-colored panels. I really felt this was a major distinctive feature on the Element. I'd probably choose a FWD Y if it had the non body colored panels. I'm pretty sure that in the the States you can get a higher trim with non-body colored panels (i.e. EX vs. EX-P). Anyone else disappointed with this and actually have downgraded their choice just for this? Or am I the only nitwit to consider this (down answere yes to this last statement... please).

3. Leasing vs. Buying. I've never leased before but I have read through the site and all the helpful advice and links. I have to admit, It's grown on me. I've compared the numbers, my situation and expectations, and if I were to lease, I'd go 3 years (i.e. within std. warranty). Rough calculations, (base - 4WD Y) lease: $304-376/ month; and purchasing: $452-560/month (60 months). Anyone leasing and if so, are you happy with your decision, plans after the lease is up? Honda has 3-year residual set @ 50%.

4. Color. I'm not a Kiwi type guy; Black w/ black not sold on the idea; Alabaster Silver w/ Blue Trim, I'm wishing the trim was black so it matches the window tint; Neutron Blue w/ Black trim, I find works well. So its between the Silver vs. Blue. Anyone else have a color choice dilemna, lol. In particular, the Silver w/ Blue trim + black window tint.

Well, I think I'm flipping between being confident in my decision then all of a sudden, doubting myself. Crazy fool, I am. I would greatly appreciate any helpful advice, reassurance lol. Thanks all.

Hey Smack!!
Hello and WELCOME!!:D
As to your questions....
1. We've never had a problem with the front wheel drive, and the E has handled snowstorms in Blue Mountain as well at Toronto...
2. The Y in Canada is the same as the US EX (the -P means painted panels) and you can only get a LX (base model) or EX-P (with or without AWD) in Canada. 05 was the last year of being able to get the 'loaded' with regular (un-painted) panels for us. So either find an 05, or learn to like the paint .
3. You have to choose what is best, financially, for you. We've leased, and bought, so it didn't make any difference for us. Your going to be able to 'flip' the lease before it's up, and still clear enough for a down payment on the next one. The resale values for Honda's are VERY good.
4. I'm not a good one to discuss colour with. We traded in our leased Galapagos Green, and bought an Eternal Blue Pearl. The one thing we have learned about the E tho, it doesn't matter what colour you have, people will stare, and make silly comments. It's a love it or hate it vehicle. So get what makes you feel good!

Again welcome - and have a search through the forums - just one small word of advise....please check the dates threads are started on - some people don't like it much when we resurrect the dead...:D

PVR, LegoTruk, thanks for the warm welcome. Hey Tim, thanks again too. I'm from the West Island.

I'm still in the hunt, got a quote from one dealer. I've joined CarCostCanada, and will get another quote from their references. Next up, I'll have to give my current vehicle a detailing and find out its reasonable trade-in value before I sit down with any of them. Still a few details I need to resolve but progressing along. I'll keep you posted. Take care guys.

Hi Guys,

Just an update on my E quest, had some personal issues to deal with and so had to set aside the hunt. Anyways, I've managed to visit 3 dealers of which 2 are playing ball, the third dropped out and couldn't at least match. I've emailed about a dozen others for their price quotes and I'm currently waiting for their replies. I was upfront, just as I was at those dealers, givng exact details of what I wanted, and my best offer from their competitors.

So far, I'm about $300 above wholesale plus a front air deflector installed.

Followed all the great advice I've read on EOC, the suggested links etc.. Only discussed the possibility of a trade-in as I was walking out.

In addition, I've teamed up with my best friend who is also looking at getting a Honda (an Accord) so we've been using this strength by numbers ("The Power of Two!" lol) in our negociations. It's an all or nothing deal.

As for trade-ins, initially I was already turned off by the idea, for obvious reasons, but the sake of just knowing, I looked into more carefully, as I was really just relying on my subjective feelings. I checked black and blue book values, local selling prices etc.. factored in the tax savings on a trade-in versus private.. and then, came upon a dollar figure that I felt would be a reasonable trade-in value to accept. I've also considered that, in reality, I've got next to no time to entertain potential buyers, then all the associated stuff that comes with it. Work in progress.

Lastly, after considering everything, I'm purchasing, rather than leasing, its a good finance rate, very reliable vehicle, so in the end, I'll be on top. Also, going for the AWD Y, and NBP (first choice; then NBM, TMM, ASM). I liked the idea of going plain Jane, but having always driven 4WD, I couldn't let go.

Thanks again guys, I'll keep you posted. Take care.

Sound like you're doing a great job sorting things out...we just picked up our E over the Civic holiday weekend.
Similiar to what you're doing we followed the same path...the price you're getting quoted sound pretty good. (compared to ours)
Trade in value is subjective, we used the Canadian Black Book values offered through the Toyota website to get a rough estimate.
We also had a 'group buy' (inlaws), but there was not much movement on the price quoted...but the trade in and accessories were 'negotiated'.
All in all, within a week, we agreed on a price and a week later we picked up the E.
Good luck...

Hi all!

After 3 years of looking at the Element I finally took the plunge and got one to call my own.

I bought it from St-Constant Honda (Quebec) Good service and I think I got a decent price. They gave me $9000 for my 2002 Civic for a trade in. I took the EX-P 4WD in Alabaster Silver. Options: Got a hidden hitch with a 3 place bike rack, Fog lights, mag locks, and hood deflector. Payments @ $460 a month + 2.9% financing for 60 months.

First thing I will order from sports wing is the side door mouldings to protect my baby from those idiots that bang your car door. (Usually happens at Walmart...)

Here's a picture of her waiting for me at the dealership. Gonna wax her this weekend. I'll post pictures when I install the door mouldings...

Hi there. This is my first post. I live in Quebec City, and I will have my E this week. I bought a fully loaded 2003 Element with Y package.

For the last 3 years, I was driving a 2001 Golf 2 doors TDI and was commuting 140 km daily. Now, it is only 28 km, so no need for a little car.

I'm expecting to do a lot of maintenance myself and switching to syntech oil.

Pastimes : Hunting, MTBing, skiing fishing and camping. I think I choose the best vehicule for my way of life.
