You guys know a place to go Off Roading?
Nothing serious, just for fun!
I'm looking somewhere close to my place.

I live in S.F. California.

For my recent trips (see Northwest section) I have used Tony Huegel's 'Washington Byways' book. He has a corresponding one for coastal California

I've done one in that list
No. 2 Old Gasquet Toll Road (up near the Oregon border)

The Sierra Nevada Byways routes may be as close

For a start you could try driving into the mountains from Nevada City, for example heading up past Malakoff (sp?) Diggins (state park). The North Bloomfield Rd crossing of the Yuba river is fun driving, even if it isn't rough. Several years ago I got stuck on one of those forest roads while trying to cross an old snow drift in my RAV4 (in May).
The E trails in http://4x4books.com/gtcan.htm might also be good Element driving.
The Delorme volume for N Calif. is a useful tool.
Also check the CA state park site for any off highway sections. I don't know if there are any in the Bay area.
