I was wondering if anyone knows of a good test disc that I can buy for tuning my system?

What do you need to test and tune?

I have a set of three home audio setup and test CD's that are produced by Stereophile magazine, that have test tones at various frequencies as well as imaging and other kinds of do-flotchies that allow you to see what your system is doing right or wrong.

The set of three is like $25. They are very cool for testing system response, as they have 20hz warble tones that will shake the house (or car) with a capable sub. And, they include some good tracks for good measure, if you're into classical.

That's some old school stuff...gotta be careful if you're not familiar with his music, too much volume and you're toast!

Anything by Yoko Ono. After that you pretty much just want to rip the radio out of the dash and never, ever listen to music again.

Use music you are intimately familiar with. Anything will do. It's best if it is a recording of instruments you know the sound of live, unamplified. If you play piano, use a piano disc. If your roommate plays acoustic guitar, use that. If you go to church a lot, you might want to use an organ or choral recording. Often the best choice is a good drum recording. Most club bands don't use a lot of mics on their drums and what you hear are the true drums, not the drums through electronics. You know what real drums sound like.

Voicing a system is a subjective thing. It's like picking shoes; only you know when they fit. When you use music you know and your system is right, it clicks in your brain. A-ha!
