: About to buy tires!

After 48,650 miles with the oem Goodyear tires, I'm finally buying new tires.

I just found out Goodyear is running a $40 rebate, they are still expensive but i'm going to buck-up because of their rave reviews (Consumer Reports, the Acura MDX board, etc...)

Only problem is they only come in 225/75/16. What say ye ole Honda brain trust brain trust here?

I'm going to do it through Tire rack and have my local mechanic mount them on my just bought EX alloy's (awesome $130 deal for 4 EX rims from the trading post here)

Still cost me $150 bucks more then the Dayton's but many folks are raving about this tire. The prices listed is suggested msrp from Goodyear. The actual retail is less. Which size below would fit the E the best?
Thank you in advance.

P.S.
The Fortera actually comes in the E's stock tire size of 215/70/16

Tire Rack won't guarantee any other size to fit and discouraged it. Time to check the local Goodyear stores.

I just bought 4 Good Year Fortera silent armor tires from Tire rack for $118 per tire + $34 shipping + mounting, balancing and tire disposal, $20 per tire and 4 wheel alignment for a grand total of $586.66 or $146.64 per tire with everything included.

Yeah I was going to say out of the list you posted only 3 choices should work on the stock alloys.

P215/70R16 SL 99T OWL 5.5 - 7.0 6.50 8.7 27.9 1,709 @ 35 $176.95

P225/75R16 SL 104T OWL 6.0 - 7.5 6.00 8.8 29.3 1,984 @ 35 $184.95

What size did you go with, stock 215?

I went with the stock 215/70/16's. I'll post pics after they are mounted. They already shipped, so hopefully by Sat. they will be on the E and I'll post pics.

Informal poll?

The Fortera's come with raised white lettering on one side and black wall on the other. Tire Rack said they are designed to be mounted either way according to taste preferences. I've seen the raised white letter fortera's already on a Denali and a Toyota Landcrusier with the white letters exposed.
What say ye?

How about cooper tires? They make tires to fit the Element, you can check out their website at coopertires.com.You will have to do a search by the tire size.I have used cooper tires in the past on my truck and they have preformed well and they are less expensive than the goodyear tires.

Coopers were rated #16 out of 22 in Consumer Reports latest SUV tire review.
This is what Consumers says about the Cooper Discoverer HT
fair dry breaking
fair wet braking
fair rolling resistance
fair ice breaking

The Acura MDX board folks are replacing their oem's with the Fortera and love the tire. Consumer Reports rates it #1. My own positive Goodyear experience spans 10 years now and they are on both of my vehicles.

I was originally going to get the Dayton Timberline (rated #5). The Dayton's are as economical as the Cooper's but much higher rated.

The Fortera tires are not "knobby" at all.
I have a set on my wifes Expedition.
Look nice and run pretty quite.
I have had them about 8 months I guess :? maybe a year. Wearing just fine.

First off, Tire Rack rocks.
I'm somewhat jaded and not easily impressed. Tire Rack has over delivered and they rock. I ordered 4 Goodyear Fortera's yesterday, and they are on my truck today. Simply amazing. In 24 hours, I ordered, they shipped via UPS out of Delaware (about 2 hours south) and they were at my front door at 12 PM today. Brought them over to my mechanic and they were mounted, balanced and 4 wheel alignment before
4 PM today. Literally 28 hours later, they are on my truck.
Initial driving impressions, The Fortera's are plush. They absorb more bumps then average with a lot of cusioning under the tread with a very stiff sidewall.
The steering feels more insulated from road bumps and more plush (for lack of a better discriptive). The wierdest thing that that the ride is quieter and insulated, yet traction has already improved dramatically. I've already tested them at the end of my block at the typical stop sign/merge onto the Main street of my town. I can usually get the front wheels to break loose when stomping on the gas (and before 4 wheel drive kicks in). This evening, 4 wheel never kicked in because the grip was outrageous. No spin or chatter while getting on it while turning either. I'm going to post pics. The tires look badass. To be continued.........

P.S. Tire Rack beat the local Goodyear shops around here by $25 per tire (after factoring out shipping plus no tax)Between Tire Rack and my local mechanic, I beat the Goodyear dealers by $150 after everything is done. AMAZING performance and economical. It's a beautiful thing.

Stopped at my local Conrads yesterday to check out tires for my daughter. I've put on 33K miles since I purchased my E at the end of October last year, and daily add 100+ miles - so I asked about Element tires. I've gotten good service and prices from them in the past. All prices are out the door, mounted, stems, balanced, road hazard warranty, lifetime rotation. From what I've read on Tire Rack today the original Wranglers aren't very popular. I've only lost traction once - wet pavement on a curving on ramp. (Which raises a side issue about the backend going sideways - do you counter steer 4WD like 2WD?- never had a 4WD)

Uniroyal Tiger Paw touring $94@
Michelien LTX Mud/snow 151
Dunlop Grandtrek TG32 121
Goodyear Fortera 158* 80k warranty
Goodyear Wrangler HP 162

*This was the dealer's recommendation and with a smile made sure I understood Kevlar did not mean bullet proof

Sometimes you counter steer and other times you don't. It depends on which way the car is breaking. It's small adjustments in both directions that keep my 4 wheel drive E relatively straight as the 4 wheel drive kicks in.

what is the tread wear life on the goodyear fronteras? i'm surprised that your goodyear shop wouldn't match tirerack's price.
