: E as a frame and canvas
Was out for an evening drive and liked the light in the clouds. Being freshly washed and shiny I used my E as a canvas for framing it and catching the reflections.
Hoping to be able to get out of town and be able to post some roadtrip images soon, but this is about as offroad as it is getting right now. Maybe Labor Day.
fEline 08-13-2005, 01:52 PM Creative use for an E. The Cleveland Art Museum had a huge birthday celebration a few years ago and made use of it's outdoor space as artwork. One way was to set up huge empty picture frames and encourage you to move around and frame the surrounding areas/buildings.
SamIam 08-13-2005, 02:47 PM Damn nice photos. What camera are you using?
paulj 08-13-2005, 03:20 PM I have used the E as a frame in a number pictures, though I like your sky-ward angle even better than my over-the-hood angle. I have also caught some reflections, though more by chance than design.

GregP 08-13-2005, 03:23 PM Beautiful colors, I like the way you framed the open door.
SamIam, the embedded picture info says it was taken with a Fuji FinePix E550, 1/128sec, F/8, at ISO100.
orangecrush 08-13-2005, 03:24 PM paulj that is the coolest picture! That is just too cool for words, thanks for sharing.
Yes it was a Fuji E550. My first digital camera, just got it. I am a film guy and normally shoot Fuji Velvia classic slide film with medium and large format. However Fuji is replacing that film with a new Velvia 100 which I do not like. So I picked up the little camera to help me frame shots better and conserve the now precious classic Velvia film. The bonus is it works great for snapshots, in your pocket on a walk, in the glovebox, etc. So far it has mostly been used to take images of my new E. :-) I did print a couple of images at 12x18 and they look pretty good, not medium format quality but a decent replacement for my old 35mm camera and print film.
PaulJ-You have some great images and go to some neat places. I really like when you post them and share.
GregP-How did you see imbedded image info? When I do a rightclick properties it does not show me that.
SamIam 08-13-2005, 09:38 PM Fuji huh? I love my Canon but that's a great photoset, nice saturation.
paulj 08-13-2005, 10:59 PM One way of viewing image information is to save a copy to your own machine, and then open it with a program that can display such information, such as the viewer that came with your camera, or a freeby like IrfanView.

GregP 08-14-2005, 04:38 AM jedi - When you right-click and look at the picture's properties you will find a Summary tab. On that tab's page towards the bottom there should be a button labeled Advanced>> where the info is found. By default it only displays simple info.
I am using Mozilla and I do not get advanced properties, that might explain it. Also interesting to see that if you save it to your computer you could see it too. I did not realize that. (talk about being a film guy).
Here is another of my E from this morning as I was out taking pictures. No tricks the light was that intense.

WOW ! Beautiful !
frogpond_1 08-14-2005, 11:32 AM As far as consumer digitals go the Fuji IMO has some of the best. I used to have an old Sony which was good but when it came to buy a replacement Sony had gone backwards and stripped its new cameras of the good features. Sometimes I just don't get Sony....So then it came down to an Olympus and the Fuji E550. I'm with Jedi on this one the E550 is one of the best out there as far as pro digital I would go with the Fuji S3 built off of a Nikon body with Nikon features
Great pics, thanks for posting them!
paulj 08-14-2005, 02:28 PM Here are a couple of other attempts at framing and reflection. The open door picture was taken on a forest service road in the Washington Cascades (near Stevens Pass). This framing would work better if the subject itself had 'V' or 'A' like shape. The reflection was taken in the WY Big Horn Mtns, Hwy 14, Shell Canyon. That was taken on my first big trip with the Element in the fall 2003.

Great looking shots Paul. Yep you do go to some of the coolest places!
In fact it was seeing images of all these out of the way places, forest service roads, mud holes, snow banks etc that were posted here really helped seal the deal for me to get the E over the Pilot.
paulj 08-15-2005, 03:10 PM Here's a picture from a picnic stop, in the forest south of Mt St Helens.

Those are nice shots (all of them)
Hey PaulJ, where is that first pic? I obviously know where the second one is (beautiful mountain!)
paulj 08-15-2005, 04:51 PM The Utah canyon shot is in Long Canyon near Dead Horse Pt St Pk, Moab. I discuss that area a bit more in

with a larger set of pictures on the Other forum (my Fall Colors series last October).

Elementitis 08-23-2005, 10:28 AM a similar shot, taken in a similar place near Moab.
Elementitis 08-23-2005, 10:30 AM Here's a shot I took in Colorado near Crested Butte last month. This is my parents '05 EX bought exactly 1 year to the day after I bought my '04 GGM EX. Cool thing - I bought them a set of Yakima landing pads for $40 and was able to throw my rack on for the trip without a single adjustment.
Elementitis 08-23-2005, 10:31 AM OOps!! Those shots got reversed when I named and posted them. Sorry
paulj 08-23-2005, 11:00 AM Here's a view of the cliffs along the Colorado River just downstream from Moab.

SamIam 08-28-2005, 02:44 AM One more today, this one in the middle of Lake Washington on the Floating Bridge. Hey whats that lump in the background? :)
paulj 08-28-2005, 10:33 AM This is one of the first E pictures that I posted, taken a couple of years ago in a Washington forest (Rockford SP).
