OMG...I wish I knew about these a year ago when I was installing my system. From the very beginning I've had noise in my system. My rear speakers would whine every time I accelerated and my front speakers would emit this faint popping noise that increased in frequency as I also accelerated. For the last year I've managed this by really lowering the gain on my amplifier and setting my volume at 50%. Suffice it to say, I always knew my system should be better.

Yesterday night, I went to Walmart and discovered these Ground Loop Isolators for $14 a pop. Installed them in the parking lot (just unplug RCA lines, and replug with GLI installed - less than 30 seconds) and I accidentally set my gain to its maximum.

Turned on my stereo and freaked as my speakers blared as they never have before. But after I adjusted the volume the sound was CLEAN and virtually perfect. Drove around for 15 minutes: no accelerator whine, no popping...just musical bliss.

So here are my 2cents: go pick up some GLI if you've got the typical ground loop noise in your system. It's ony $13-$17, plug and play install, and if it doesn't work for you, just return it.

Hey,

Can you post a pix? I've got the Radio Shack ones.

Thx, Phil

I had this same problem in my Prelude when I re-installed my amps and subs after I had some car work done. Turns out, I had bad ground connections. Once I cleaned the grounding area and re-grounded all the components, it was back to perfect clarity.

Not going against purchasing these "GLI's", but they sound like a band-aid rather than a fix. Check all your grounds again (re-do if necessary) and maybe the re-grounding along with your GLI's, your system will be even better than before.

Here's a link to their website:
http://www.scosche.com/scosche/noise/

It's product ES-034 at the bottom. Plug it in right before your RCA connectors plug into the amplifier.

The radio shack one should be the same thing.

And I've reinstalled my system twice...redoing the wiring, the layout, and the grounds each and every time. phew...it's gets tiring. I thought it was rather odd, though, why I had two different types of noise. You're right, though, many cases can be solved just by playing with the grounds and cleaning them...but my ground are in pretty hard to reach places and I wanted to try the GLIs out.

Like I mentioned earlier, i think the GLIs are good because they are pretty much plug and play. If you find they don't work for your system then just unistall and return it.
